What is your favorite fighting knife?

A CS Gladius Machete with 8-9 inch blade of slightly thicker stock and a kydex-lined leather sheath would be ideal and perform better than most of the $100+++ knives. A lot of fighter designs are big on fantasy and small on having a clue. Anything under 12 inch blade should be designed for stabbing primarily even though you see a lot where they are a mini chopper not good for entry cuts or stabbing. Also no need for medieval dagger profile with very narrow tip unless its intended to take out people in medieval armor. 4" deep wound 2" wide is more likely to damage arteries and major organs than 6" deep wound 1" wide. We are soft skin mammals with compacted insides and your bg or zombie is not likely to be armored.

I do love the KaBar USMC Utility/Fighter for it's design and history. Handle is much better than most knives. Makes you wonder how so many handles plain suck this many years later.

Personally I'd rather bring my gun to a knife fight but when I can't CC my 9mm than I usually carry one of these:

Bud Nealy Aikuchi, Bud Nealy Stinger, Bob Dozier Arkansas Toothpick, or EK Model 5 Combat Bowie.

Ever since I was a young lad reading SOF, I've always been partial to the Applegate/Fairbairn...

But, truth be told, if I had to be in a "knife fight", I'd probably grab my HI CAK khukri...

Gets me every time. As for me:

I've never received any knife fighting training(nor do I plan to), and I mostly learned how to fight with my fists, so if I'd ever want a knife in a fight, it'd be this. Of course, I'd rather have a knife that teleports me home or somewhere safe so I don't have to deal with the whole fighting thing and all the stuff that comes after.

This is one knife Ive always seen as an 'Ultimate Fighting Knife'. This was used by the Spetsnaz for close quarters combat. If they had just put down an enemy with this knife and another enemy walked in with a gun or something they could shoot the blade at them, they would have to be relatively close of course, but the Spetsnaz were trained to be sure shots with this Ballistic Knife.

May I know where you got that info?

I do not have any knife fighting skills.....but I'm damn good with my 1911. I would pull out a pocket knife as a distraction and then pull out my firearm.

I've always been partial to the V-42 of the 1st SSF....

In fact, I just succumbed to the desire for a few "stickers"....

Nothing wrong with a F/S and/or variants....

Of course, there's always this....

Huh. I studied in Systema, which is a Russian martial art practiced within certain units of Spetsnaz. Most of the guys I met in there considered these novelties. Generally you don't want to throw, or shoot, your last holdout weapon away. As for this thread in general, if you don't have a sword, and don't have the good sense to run away from a knife fight, it's better to have a mid-to-short bladed knife in a close encounter. Shorter knives are harder to restrain, misdirect, or disarm. For those saying they'd rather have a pistol in a close encounter, it all depends on ranges. Pistols are great from 15'-3'. Otherwise I'd rather have a knife or impact weapon (edit) a rifle, and fleet feet.

Say what you will about the ballistic knife, I've used one. The first vid is of a shot from about 10' away. The second vid is of me, shooting at a pallet laying on the ground, about 80' away. Under no circumstances, would I want to be on the pointy end of one of these. No way, no how.

And this was my first time ever using one, first one I had ever seen in real life, actually.

While I am fond of the KaBar, I always liked the M3 Trench Knife more. Also got to handle a Ek New Guinea Bush Knife at BLADE this year & loved it.

Phillip patton posted a fighter in damascus
Back in july that I like but would opt for it
To be made of D2 or A2 instead !...

Also nick wheeler makes some bad ass fighters
As well !

There are also smaller knives like Ruck, Natural Outlaw, Satin Jack, Mean Street are all good.
Obviously I am a Busse fan. There are not many badly designed Busse.

I first heard of the Ballistic Knife from a TV show, I know.. not the best place for reliable info, but it had some amazing weapons. The show is called "Deadliest Warrior" and they bring in experts of different war driven cultures (romans, aztecs, ect.), military branches, and warlords throughout history. In one episode they brought in former Spetsnaz personnel and this is the weapon they chose to use for close quarters. (Each 'Team' gets to choose weapons that were used by the individual or group they represent.) I believe the 'battle' they had on the show was set decades ago, not now. Im not sure though. I highly doubt they still use this knife as their 'go-to' close quarters weapon. Which is probably why its considered a novelty now.

Im not an expert, this is just my opinion. Id rather not have to use a knife to defend myself, Id rather just use a firearm, but if I had to use a knife.. having one that can extend my reach out to 10-20 feet is definitely a plus. And yes I wouldnt want to have to shoot the blade and lose my weapon in hand, but if its either that or be shot... Id rather be alive and have to rip my knife out of a corpse than be dead with my knife in my hand.

@ Moose.
Awesome Video, Ive never seen one shot that far! Thanks for sharing!

@DRVoxmentat.
I agree, a gun is ideal until youre too close to use it properly, then a knife finds its place. I should have been more specific earlier about the Spetsnaz training with them years ago. Im am not an expert, just saw it and fell inlove with the design and concept.
