I love the SOG because it has a solid and thick blade that keeps a great edge. I've taken it camping many times and combining it with my rubber deadblow, its great for chopping up firewood and making kindling as well as slicing steaks!
The Schrade, I enjoy because for a lockback knife, it has a great feel in my hand and is heavy...I feel like it can take a beating and it has, admirably. I've even used it for delicate whittling also. Very versatile.

My favorite fixed blade is actually a pair of them with different edge variants. I have a pair of Spyderco's Temperance 1 models in plain edge and Spyderedge. I didn't take that knife very seriously, nor did I even get one until they discontinued it. I was totally amazed at how ergonomically balanced they were and how great it felt in my hand.
I've done some pretty agregious cutting chores with my pair of Temperance 1 models. I even used them to skin and dress a Missouri Snapping Turtle with

I've used my pair of Temperance 1 models for many kitchen and gardening chores and they do well with just about every cutting chore I've used them on. I hope to the Good Lord above that Spyderco will cave in and make the newer Temperance 2 model in Spyderedge. Because it would truly be an injustice if they don't.
If you are lucky enough to find one of these great Spyderco fixed blades at a gun/knife or outdoor show you better grab it. Because it is an excellent blade design and will take on just about any hard cutting chore.
