What is your favorite inexpensive folder?

I envy you guys in oz a byrd is 50 dollars

That does seem odd. China is considerably closer to OZ than to the US. I suppose they go from China to the US, then back to OZ. I wonder that some enterprising vendor hasn't been able to arrange a drop shipment going straight from China to you folks.

Spyderco Tenacious is the best folder for the money at this time. The liner lock is tough and sturdy. The blade is a perfect leaf design and quick on the draw. At $31 I have 3.

Benchmade Vex is also very good. I have one of each. Clip point with thumb hole and tanto blade with thumb studs. Very good G10 and the pocket clip is one of the best designs I have seen. At $41 each.

I love the Gerber Paraframe II. I ADMIT IT!! Frame lock, stainless or coated brown with whatever. 3.6” blade of mystery metal. Like a Ruger firearm, affordable and never stops working. About $25.

One more Gerber. The EVO. Yea that’s right. Slim, nice looking blade 3.5” spear point blade of Gerber’s famous mystery metal. Probably 440A (just a guess). Deep pocket clip. Totally hidden in pocket. It looks cool too. $27 each

Last…… Byrd Catbyrd. Check this one out. Similar blade and size to the Tenacious. Steel frame with some grippy stuff on one side. Frame lock!! That’s right, a Byrd framelock.
3+ inch leafe style blade shoots out like am AO. It WAS nice, however….. it had some sharp edges on the frame lock. No problem, I’ll just fix it with my trusty Dremel. Now it’s not so nice. But it could be. $30.

Okay...got some images of my #12 Opinel with the split arrow pocket clip.

Pretty simple mod really...drilled three pilot holes the diameter of Benchmade's pocketclip screws, bent the mounting portion of the clip back in a vise, applied some Gorrila Glue in the holes, and screwed the clip on. I got tired of carrying it down in my pocket with my Leatherman and cell phone...

Just wish the screws were silver too...

I found new silver and red Vic 'Farmer' SAKs shipped for <$30 total some time back, making that my least expensive choice - a Vic Farmer for $15!

For $27, inc s/t, there is always the Buck 110 from W-W. For $43 from there, you could have scored, at least until last summer, a Spydie S30V Native, my true EDC for the last 20 months.

Now, twenty years ago found me in a tourist trap in Gatlinburg knife store replacing my forgotten/lost SAK with a Buck 301 Stockman (~$21) - a great whittler for my woods treks for some time. I guess it's all in your perspective at 'the time'.

probably the Mercator, A little more expensive than the Opinel, but a lot sturdier too.

I have a modest collection of 110's. I picked up a 110 at the gun show yesterday for twenty bucks and felt that was inexpensive. It was a 97 knife and like new.

Beefynerd, I like it alot! Particularly the way you mounted the clip at the tapered part of the handle. Thanks for the pics.

In the 10 - 20 range these are my favorites:

The Buck Bantam 284 - 285

and the Boker Magnum Pocket Bowie (that's the name). 2 1/4" 440 blade. Very nice for the price.

If you are lucky, Boker/Magnum has several very nice models for very low prices. Others tend to get loose very quickly.

You're welcome! I'm pretty happy with it...my next idea is to add something like a one arm bandit to it. that'll require a bit more work though.

When you say inexpensive to me that automatically eliminates any name brand knife such as Spyderco, Cold Steel, CRKT and the like.

But just like Stockman242, when I reach for a cheap user (is cheap different than inexpensive?) I grab my Mercator! Dang I like that knife!

there are plenty of cheap knives from CRKT, and some from CS, and maybe one from Spyderco (lots more if you count the byrds)

Sodbuster Jr. in CV. It is a great knife that gets a lot of pocket time.
