What is your favorite SAK to carry???

yeah the alox ones are good'un's

i prefer his little brother the wenger standard issue/victorinox pioneer. the saw is pretty amazing, but for pocket carry that 3rd layer really is noticeable (TO ME) but i like to keep it around for camping/hiking trips :D

??? so is my one an ALOX??...It says Victoronix Swiss made stainless..........Sorry for the simpleton question......FES

It's either between the Victorinox Alox Pioneer or the Spartan for me.

I rotate through all of my Victorinox SAKs which include a few Pioneers, a Cadet, an Explorer, a couple of Spartans, a Tinker, and a Climber. I still want more Vics, and I would like to pick up some Wengers as well.

I generally prefer my multi-bladed slipjoints to be SAKs, and my traditional folders to be single bladed.

If I could take the Cadet, remove the can opener, replace it with a sheepsfoot blade like in the Electrician, but without the rounded cutout wire stripper part, that would be my ideal SAK.

Sounds pretty good  A member said they were sending me an Apprentice and Cadet over a year ago, still waiting

I love the bantam. It fits in with my mania for maximum utility for minimum bulk and weight. cutting blade? Check. Screws both flat and phillips? Check. Open bottles and cans? Check. A little light prying for when the thumbnail isn't enough? Check. Little tweezers to pull a thorn out of a corgi paw? Check. So light you can drop it in a shirt pocket? Check.

Yes Carl, I really like the Alox model ScruffUK very kindly gifted me :)

I only own a couple.....The silver one at bottom is my favourite (not sure what model it is?)...The fact it has a very efficent saw is what i like...Very good for cutting antlers in velvet off.....Good tools nonetheless.............FES

They are good saws Fes. I carried the Vic Mauser below for nigh on 10 years. Also carried a Vic Hunter a lot

(Spear-point, Clip-point, guarded saw with combination tool, punch, and corkscrew)

FES, ALOX just means the anodized handle material...the designation is for Victorinox 93mm/84mm/58mm or in the case of Wenger, the Soldat (also as the SI or Standard Issue )

ALOX...(EDC) Pioneer/Farmer/Soldier (Vic and Wenger).

Celidor (plastic)...(Usually trips or daypack carry) Champion (old style Gray mag), Explorer (Gray mag) Swiss Champ (Gray mag).

My all time favorite is the Explorer Plus, as it packs just about everything I "need". I especially find useful the real 3D phillips driver with long shank that folds out 180 degrees like God intended. The magnifier is also surprisingly useful. At 4 layers, its a little thick for pocket carry, but you soon get used to it. I used this one, this week, to cut a woman's hair at the grocery store after her hair got tangled on a button. You never know. "Remain calm, little lady. I'll save the day."

Explorer Plus.

But I am also a fan of the Manager and the Compact. It all depends on the mood. Most of us can get by just fine with nothing but a Classic SD.

Manager.

There's something nice about a single back spring knife.

I'll go our esteemed friend Carl one better and recommend the Waiter, since it also features that patented knot un-tier (also functions as a corkscrew), which you can arm with that handy little eyeglasses screwdriver.

I hear you loud and clear. For me, though, the Bantam is a gateway drug to the Compact, which adds only one layer and gives you scissors, pen, useless corkscrew (okay, Mark is right about untying knots) and mini driver. It's the scissors that I can't do without. And then when I have the Compact, me thinks that only one more layer with the Climber gives me the can opener, awl, hook and extra blade. And heck, just one more layer after that gives me the Explorer Plus with its awesome phillips and magnifier. So before I know it, I've started with one layer and ended up with four.

Any Vic SAK will do the job, they are all amazing. I own 3 (sadly one is still missing..)

I have a Climber, Cadet, and a Tinker. I love all of them but the Climber gets the most use.

I own four full size SAK's and only one with the ALOX handles - if I carry one it is this Farmer (a more substantial knife than the plastic handled ones). OH
