What is your preferred way to open your knives? Personally, I like the spydie hole. I also like thumb studs but some manufacturers have a tendency to place them too close to the handle which makes the blade awkward to open one handed. I realize my question can be answered differently depending on the situation, or some folks may carry a fixed blade and don’t have to worry about opening their knife. Be sure to vote in the poll.

I like the spydie hole best. So many options for opening, very intuitive and there’s nothing to get hung up on while cutting or sharpening. If I were to pick a second, it’d be a flipper just because they’re so much fun.

I don’t place opening method too high on my list of priorities, as long as I can open the knife—preferably with one hand—and the opener doesn’t get in the way, I’m happy.

Add front flipper to the list maybe. Or the thumb disk.

Don't have a favorite, or more accurately, it changes very often, why I have many knives with different opening method so when I get bored with one I pick another.
I do have one which I thoroughly hate though, and it's assisted/automatic opening; I don't trust them, it remove control from me and it add unnecessary mechanical complication. I still have 2 in my collection, never use them, they're there to remind me how silly those things are(well, also, they're not worth the trouble of selling them).

I feel like a mutant but I like thumb studs better. I feel more safe and comfortable, although it may break the lines of a blade design. But not as much as a hole. Apples and oranges anyway

Wave would be my favorite as it's incredibly practical, but it's also incredibly agressive in the eyes of the gen pop.

Absolute favorite is the wave, spydie hole is definitely the worst... Unless you get a stone washed finish it's like sticking your thumb into a razor blade.

Flipper. The flipper is extremely quick out of pocket, soon as I take my pocket out of knife my finger just naturally lands on the flipper tab, and also have a secure grip on the knife while doing so quickly (unlike many other designs where you have a weak grip on the knife). Also, a properly designed flipper while being fast, is also easy to operate with gloves on, when wet and is a safety feature acting as a forward guard and if the lock fails the flipper tab will hit your finger not just the blade.

My favorite is to depress the AXIS lock and flick open. I especially like it because the same method is used for closing. I didn't vote because the poll says "automatic AXIS", and I'm not a fan of AXIS locks with auto or assisted opening, as it eliminates easy one handed closing.
