What is your favourite machete?

Ontario 12’s always worked for me. The handles are blocky, but easily modified. They had an “Economy” model for a long time, which was discontinued before the sale, that was thinner and my favorite. Bought a couple when they started to disappear.

Made an all new handle for one, just for fun.

Where do the blanks come from?
Cut by waterjet in the same shop. The steel I use is mainly Z tuff which is from Sweeden. I also use 52100 which is unfortunately only made in China but is ultra clean and high quality. I also am looking at using LC200N which is from Sweeden as well and I still use 3V from time to time which is made in New York.

I appreciate you taking the time to answer my questions.

Is your machete a current or future product?

Is your machete a current or future product?
The Fell Beast Legacy Prime which is my hard use flagship machete will be ready in a couple weeks. I will be doing a run of The True Grass Machete, which is a lightweight traditional machete later this year.

Just bought a 16” Imacasa off the ‘Bay for less than a Jackson. My other machete is a very vintage 22” La Marca Corneta that is well used, pitted, rusted and absolutely indestructible. I also have a SYKCO 1311 that is an amazing chopper, but I actually prefer my machetes to be a true Latin American pattern.

I'm personally actually not a huge fan of the Ontario machetes. Too thick, too hard, horrible ergonomics. But they were the only USA-made machete up until they became unavailable. I carried them, but because they were the only choice for a tool meeting those features, but they were a pale comparison to the same machetes made in the 90's and earlier, which had actual full flat grinds.
I tried to like the ontarios at one time and couldn't either. I like the tramontina 14" the best. It's ideal for what I do which is small trimming for hammocks and chopping grass or weeds back for a campsite. Also works on tough bait fish.

do these have a distal taper or are they just flat?
The distal taper is one of the key things I look for in a good machete.
They are flat but the fuller accomplishes the same reduction in weight and improvement in balance with the added benefit of no reduction in strength.

These things feel AMAZING. The balance is just perfect (for me at least)

Not to be a Debbie Downer (I prefer Deborah) but Z-tuff is going to be expensive. Any plans for other steels?
