What is your plan for the end times?

It really depends on the scenario. If God says it is game over then well game over. If a huge rock hits earth, then I will be smoking cigars & hugging the family. If it's zombies I will defend & be on the offensive accordingly. If its just human & or gov. stupidity well then it's run for the hills & live like an animal I guess.

No high tech gear/body armour, helmets, multicam LBE, NVGs...my plan is to have a great pair of boots, a reasonable amount of gear, and try my best to stay the hell away from everyone as I walk and walk and walk..

I may also act like a nutter as Del Gue did and shout out lines from The Thing if anyone shady approaches me.

and that is one of the best plans, to coordinate with like minded folks, group together for strength and shared abilities.

one of the most important stratagies is to network and have a destination in mind where you will be expected and welcome.

farmed most of my life so plenty of experiance and equipment including horse drawn.

so come ahead your welcome.
cricket

people just don't know that tex fest is a planning ground for future staging procedures....;):D

The amount of people trying to run for it may make it easier to sit tight. Obviously not in more remote areas, but I'd have too much to get through. I figure I'd have to find local solutions for food after storage went dry. After a bit of time goes by, I'd have to decide how to proceed. Hopefully a local group would form with friends. The first winter would thin the herd for sure.

The financial collapse in the US and another one looming over most of Europe.

Earthquakes in Haiti and Chile.

Record floodings everywhere and extreme weather courtesy of climate change.

The "triple winter" storms (shades of Ragnarok of Norse myth ain't it?).

The El Nino drought.

Pandemics like HIV/AIDS, SARS, Swine flu

Hopefully: to look back and say to myself: "It might not have all been great, but I don't have too many regrets. Its been a good life. I'm going home!":)

Truly interesting responses to this thread.

I have so much I could say on this subject, I would bore you all to death.

But it is enough to say that being prepared, or preparedness is NOT something you do, then your ready. Preparedness is a way of life, a lifestyle choice you make that is always ongoing.

For some really good fiction, that is truly thought provoking, Read Thomas Sherry's Deep Winter series. It is a good place to start.

I don't think the civilisation will end at once. If the goverments fall and society collapses, people will gather in groups with less or more different ways of surviving - some staying in the slowly deceasing cities, perhaps trying to keep up what they can; others will create or join independent communities throughout the countryside. I don't think people will split into particular families and live in the wild, at least not here in Europe, there's not enough place and wilderness for this. There will still remain elities that will be able to pay (or run by themselves) some power plant, to supply with gasoline and to manufacture some tools and devices (though not high-tech, but who knows), and, most importantly, to have other people to protect and serve them.
I, personally, don't have an exact plan what to do, it depends on the situation, the type of the catastrophe taking place... I agree with MrCoffee on preparedness being a way of life more than a particular plan. I think most importnant is to be versatile, higly adaptable, and with vast knowledge of different scopes. Keeping in shape and train your endurance is also a good thing, I'd say. Oh, and if you are to survive, first of all you need the will to survive, I think.
But if things go really bad, I like Cpl Punishment's plan, then :D
And yes, like some 2% or 3% of people in Europe, I AM armed

Whether it be neighbor vs. neighbor, or zombies my plan is to move light & fast. No sapi plates, at the most I'm thinking soft armor. Head protection would prob be a spec ops pro-tec helmet w/ surefire helmet led, nv mount. I just invested in some multi-cams, good boots & full molle harness with a thigh rig. 3L camelback is a must, trauma pack, shotshell holder, pistol holder & extra magazine, esee-6 molle locked blade, mini survival kit etc... as far as other preparations I keep mre's, extra water & a 72 hour kit in the house just in case. Firepower will be a mossberg 500 tactical able to shoot #1 & 00 shot & slugs & a taurus .40 with extended magazines.

Hey...didn't I see you in those People of WalMart pictures I keep getting???

Presumming that im am left about at the end of times; I would have this blasting in some head phones within my helmet;

And with a whole host of stimulants on board and
As this drowned out everything I would walk about with my flame thrower seting everything ablaze.

thats about the jest of it. :D

I will be going to my local gun shop. Those guys will be pulling out the full auto goodness and Barrett .50 cals, so that will be a nice group to hang with. And since guys that work at guns shops are so knowledgeable, I should be all set.:D

By looking at and reading this thread, it seems each situation in preparedness depends on the values of the individual and what's important to them and their location when this all comes about. I'll try to be prepared as best I can for my family and situation, but if it was truly the end times, my guess is I wouldn't care since I intend to be part of the rapture with my family! :D

but you'll be alot better off in a bad situation looking like a redneck than you would looking like a merc.

Agreed, all that tacti-cool gear, and fatigues will mark you for target IMO as well, especially with crowds of folks that are lost and or don't have a clue. Can you imagine being bled dry (of your gear or food) by a crowd of say 75 folks or more looking for food, and you looking like you got it all together with your gear and load bearing equipment.

If "IT" happens, you best find a way to look a little meager too.

Part of my plan is to blend in. And find a smaller more self reliant community. But i think the initial responce will be to sit still, i can barely take traffic on the freeways after 3pm, much less during a catastrophe.

Nutnfancy’s urban survival kit video talks to a many of those same points Ron. If anyone wants to practice blending in, head to any one of the many impoverished areas of your region; take a walk about, see how many looks you get. Or hang with the homeless for a night or two. I find myself in a lot of areas that require discretion in wardrobe and presence. It is a good skill building exercise.

Whatever happens, I plan on being family as soon as possible. Depending on what kind of "disaster" hits be it nuclear, biological, or economical collapse we have plans on where to meet (we live some 4 hours apart). Family is the most important thing to me in a situation like that. Plus we're all like-minded in survival prep so we would probably stand a better chance hanging together, not to mention the encouragement, camaraderie, etc. we could offer each other. I don't want to rely too heavily on my gear in case something happens; so the will to survive and a wide and practical knowledge base is king.
