What is your price limit for an EDC?

OT: I wish you guys would go back and edit the rude smileys. I'm not offended by it, but it's not within the current standards of welcoming and friendliness that BladeForums is known for.

You've got something rude to say, no problem, we have a sub-forum just for that; it's called "Whine and Cheese".

Somewhere between $100.00 and $120.00 for my Ritter RSK-1 and Benchmade 710D2. I have some small EDC fixed blades from Charles May and Scott Gossman, that cost more, but the folders get EDC'd more these days.

For many years, I held myself to a "no more than $100.00" for knives, but I have found that sometimes it does pay to go higher for some knives.

I think Ron LaBella's comment of "buy the best you can afford" has a great deal of merit, which is why it's good for knife folks to never just slam another guys knife, because it's not as high-end or expensive as yours. Not everybody can afford what another can, but at the end of the day, were all knife-nuts! :D
...well said ! I pretty much have found that in some instances paying a bit more, when I can afford it, yields a dividend.

I find that $150 - $200 is the most that I will spend on an EDC. Usually my EDCs' are in the $50-$70 range.

I've pretty much decided that the cheaper knives (read that cheaper steel) won't cut it for me as EDC. ;) I want to be able to use a knife for a while w/o having to sharpen it every other day. So most of my EDC's are in the $150 - $300 range. But some times, I have carried as cheap as a 'new steel' Leek and a 550 Grip, both under $100.

So it's not so much, price, but performance that I look for. But personally, I seem to get the best performance at the $200 level.

About $200.00 for a folder is my current limit. The most expensive I have carried routinely is a BM Rukus that I paid $160.00 for. 95% of the time I carry 2 Endura's (1 PE 1 SE), a D'Allara drop point PE, a wore out SOG Flash II for people to borrow, and a LM new Wave. All of my knives are used very hard and very often.

i buy the best i can afford because i got what i pay for.i had 150-200 to spend and i got
an emerson cqc-14"snubby".

i agree with lebella.

bob w,
if the jerk it smiley offends you than be offended just realize that its your problem and not anyone elses.their is no law that says you can not be offended.

and as far as the "friendliness blade forums offers"...well this is blade forums and the
jerk it smiley is theirs.if blade forums had a problem with it they would not have it.
with all due respect if you have a problem with it grow up

I agree with Bob W on this. This should be a friendly place.
Seems to me that is half the problem with the World today.
No respect.

So far the best post I've seen in this thread is the one that was simple and to the point. The post by this 'labeelly' person.

Buy the best you can, for as much as you can afford. Buy the highest quality tool you can, so you can depend on it and enjoy it while doing so.

Apparently the OP lacked the intellect to understand that, so he started up on insults and nonsense. If that's his style now, it will only get worse as time passes, I'm sure someone will have to address it later.

Every knife I buy, I buy with the intention of using it. The most I've ever spent on one is about $140 for a BRKT Northstar; It was a splurge celebrating the first paycheck of a new job. all my others are below the $100 mark.

unless it is a collectors' piece, I can't see being unwilling to carry and use a knife.

What you can afford is not really the point or the answer to the question is it? I read the question as asking what you are willing to spend on an every day carry user knife? Lots of folks are happy to carry a cheapo throw down that if lost or broken is no big deal at all. I have a custom folder that I carry every day and would be most unhappy if it broke or I lost it. I dont use it for a screwdriver or a pry bar! I carry a Busse GW when I am not at work. I gave about $250 or so for it so I guess that is my answer so far.
I could afford more if I made it a high priority in the grand scheme of my life as could everyone reading this thread. I suppose I could afford a several thousand dollar knife if I really wanted to but I dont think I would care to use it as a EDC. Henceforth the answer to the question for me is not what I can afford but what I am willing to pay for a knife that I carry and use.

I would big time agree with la bella on this. If I felt that I was getting a performance or especially a safety upgrade I would be willing to spend as much as I could afford.

1 can see no reason to pay more than100.00. That amount will buy you good quality and dependability.

I like to carry and use a nice knife.

There are knives I find impractical to EDC due to their design (too fancy, to frail), but haven't found one too expensive yet... :D

You only go through this crazy ride once...and a nice knife is a luxury one can indulge in and still have a sense of practicality! :)
