What is your workhorse blade?

Thread title says it all. I'm NOT talking about the knife you just bought and think is the greatest thing since sliced cheese. I'm talking about the silent knives in your repertoire. The ones that just go in the pack day in and day out. Sure, the new ones get all the glory, but the workhorse sits in the background. Its the one you pull out in a sketchy situation and its the one that got your through many sketchy situations in the past.

The blade that you have just learned to trust. The one where you hit a task and think about the fancy new blade in your hand and redirect....I'm going to go with 'old faithful' on this one.

So what are you workhorses. This is their time to shine. This your time to identify them.

For me: RC-4 and VIC Rucksack (Gifted to me by Fonly). Recently, the RC-4 has been giving way to my new Breeden Cub. I trust both of these knives for all they are worth.

What are your 'go-to' workhorse blades?

I really like the blade shape.
It holds its edge well & the handle feels just right to me.

Comes with a fine sheath too.

Probably my RC 4 as well. Though I wouldn't count out my Buck Vanguard, as it is the first knife I think of when hunting.

My Victorinox Farmer just keeps going and going. It could be that it is with me all the time. I just don't have a go to fixed blade yet.

My Graham custom Razel gets more use than any other knife I own.

For years, my go-to hard use small fixed blade was my Becker Necker. It's tough as nails! The built-in bottle opener has come in handy, too.

Its big brother is my BK-9. I have used the heck out of this one, batoning through hardwood, chopping frozen branches in the middle of a snowstorm - even digging. The coating is scuffed, the handle is dinged, the sheath is tattered, and the grip has been cosmetically enhanced with the addition of a state of the art bicycle inner tube wrap. :D

And finally, here's my EDC scandi. Now, I am reluctant to 'abuse' this knife, so it doesn't get forced to cut nails or anything like that. But for actual cutting tasks, it is hands-down my go-to workhorse. It is always the first thing I reach for, because it is always either on my belt or in my pocket. The patina continues to evolve, and the original grind has long since been polished smooth by regular stone sharpening and stropping. The padauk handle has darkened over time, and the sheath already looks like an antique. I love the personality of this blade.

Here's an old shot of when it was brand new, fresh from my belt sander.

All the best,

PS Ken, I really like the looks of that Breeden!

I like my Kershaw Outcast and Ranger RD-7 (original). Both have lived long and successful lives, and I believe they are unkillable.

The one I'm not afraid to do anything to (even dig, yes I said dig) is my BRKT Fox River.

I always think of that one as the silent legend in the BRKT lineup!

Mentor - that shot of your EDC scandi is your best one yet.....That is a real looker!

Great posts folks - keep 'em coming!!!!

Right now it is a toss up.

New Koster's Bushcrafter. Not tested and tried yet - but she gets a lot of work.
BRKT Gunny - Man I like that knife.

Probably though my FT Kephart gets the most use. It is just a great knife.

I have to say though - the new H and K forum knife from BRKT is going through the paces this weekend. It may be a new winner.

These two. Breeden Wharncliffe and RAT Izula. The Wharncliffe gets used most. Fishing, hiking, camping, it's almost always on my belt. The Izula is usually in my pack, pocket, or somewhere close. The RC-3 rides inside my pack from time to time as backup, if I didn't have the wharny the RC-3 would be on the top spot.

Found an old Buck 119 for 10 bucks at a yard sale about 30 years ago, the handle was messed up, so I replaced it with a shed antler I found.

I collect flint blades, these are about 2000 years old.

I have field dressed and skinned deer with them before.
