What kind of bushcraft blade do you guys use?

Brian, that Brazilian Rosewood (I think) Aurora is beautiful! I'd love to get an Aurora for my very own one day. Nice pics and nice site too. I'm going to have a closer look soon.

+1 on the Aurora

I know this pic is more breadcraft than bushcraft but I have found this knife the best so far and now really understand why so many swear by a Scandi grind !!!

The Scandinavian style blade, under the red handled Skookum, has African Blackwood scales and is a longtime favorite knife for woodworking projects in the bush. The sharp half-grind sails through most woods like butter.

What can I say about the Skookum. Certainly one of the most comfortable, hand-filling, incredibly efficient knives that I have ever used in the woods.

Who can forget a good spoon or crooked knife in the bushcraft kit? I whittled out this little spoon on a short backpacking trip last week.

I will add one more favorite. Very comfortable mortised osage scales and a 4.25" blade.

Here's the knife I've been using. The pic is from AG Russel's site, where I got the knife.

And this was my first ever bushcraft blade, I got it when I was 8, it's a knockoff strider with a hollow grind and some crap steel that takes forever to get an edge on. It's where I got my dislike for cord wrapped handles.:D I used it for 2 whole years, cutting branches/ bamboo, practicing traps and lean to's, helping my dad skin deer and just about everything I needed a fixed blade for. I stopped using it when I bought that rapala. It just goes to show that we don't really need $400 knives to do bushcraft, we get way too carried away with gear sometimes.

Typically a Buck 110....

For a while I carried a Gerber Gator and it worked rather well too.

+1 on the Aurora.
My photos aren't as good as Brians but here they are.

awesome looking blades guys... definately keep them coming... i like seeing all those barkies in action...

being a knife junkie and all, it's hard for me to pick just one... so, like many others, i rotate through a handful of fixed blades.. i prefer a 4 in. or less blade..

the koster bushcrafter now resides in Gaum...:o

What are your thoughts on the blackjack Psy-ops? Do you know what kind of tang it has?

Thanks

Lotoblades,

The BlackJack Grunt is an excellent knife. I am not certain but I would bet it is 3/4 tang. It is 3/16ths thick and I doubt it will be broke so easily. We will have a chance to see though, cause NOSS4 has got his hands on one and is testing now.

It cuts like aggressively. The handle is good but not great. It will be my long distance hiking knife. I am confident in it. Oh! the convex edge is super sharp and can carve a fine fuzzstick.

I'm very fond of the BRK&T Nebula.
But right now the Koster rules. I love the CPM 3V, and it's a very well designed and well built little knife..

I'm very interested in a Skookum bush-tool. Would love to take that one on a trip..
