What kind of folder do you carry?

My “Post Op” Yojumbo.

Took a Dremel to it to make it more ergonomic for me. Night and day difference now, much more comfortable.

Came out a little darker blue once put back together than I was after, but looks pretty good still overall. I was going to try a 2 color fade but was my first time dying scales so I’ll try later on another.

I’ll add to the recent Shirogorov posts with this beauty. 111 Gen 5, love this knife.
Beautiful Shiro man ! I’m familiar w/ the specs, and yet, still wondering “how does it feel in hand ?” Have you got the chance to cut with it yet ? Next year, I plan to buy my first Shirogov, and I want it to be a gem…..and use it. Is the 111 “ the one”?

Best regards,

Michael

I’ve had 3 Shirogorov knives. A MEFP F95 that I ended up selling, a MEFP Neon Zero that I absolutely love, and this 111. My buddy has had several to include other 95’s, a Quantum, F3, ( more that I forget ), and a Stellar. To be honest, I really like them all with the Quantum pulling last place simply because it’s not my style. The Neon Zero, newest gen F95, and my 111 are my favorites as they all have similar styling ( I love the stellar too ).
I’m kind of a whore for carbon fiber, especially on Shiro’s and CRK’s. The 111 is big, light, and sexy. The micro milling on the carbon fiber gives it a unique feel. The CF almost sings when you’re messing with the knife, weird, but cool to me. It carries like a smaller knife with how light it is. Forward, pinch, reverse grips are all very comfortable but I HAVE NOT used it to do hard work. I reached a point where if I’m not going to use something I will sell it and sometimes expensive knives like this won’t get used only because I don’t want to ruin them when I have others that I enjoy pushing- this knife borders on getting sold due to that. but it’s just too awesome to let go of.
I don’t know if it should be your first or one and only but I truly believe that you could do a whole lot worse than than the 111 Gen 5. I think the 5.1’s are a little too thin, your mileage may vary.

Feel in hand, I think that it’s better than the rest of the Shiro’s that I’ve held. It is about as close to a perfect design as a knife can get. There I said it. It’s awesome.

I agree with 1AbominAble1 1AbominAble1 on his take. The 111 is a very nice and super comfortable knife, but it is BIG. I carried and used Spyderco police model knives for a long time and can definitely be too big at times and not the most nimble, same goes for the 111. I haven’t used mine just carried it/fidgeted with it, and in the same boat as him.

Personally for my first Shiro I’d look at a nice F3 upgraded one like maybe an Aquatic, Aerum, or possibly a NS. Maybe an F95NL Gen 5. For comfort the F3’s can’t really be beat in my opinion (possibly by or equal to the Stellar?). The Stellar seems super nice too but just a bit smaller, I haven’t held one, YET lol. The F3/F95 are 3.75” blades and really good all around large knives. The Stellar is just a little bit shorter blade.

Here is some comparisons if you’ve handled or held any of the folders below, and the 111 compared to a DEK 1 for another comparison. Overall, I guess it would just depend what size knife you like to carry and use. <4”=F3/F95/Stellar size range, >4” 111. 111’s are very tough to find though.

Spyderco Police 4, Military 2, Shiro F3 NS, 111, DEK 1, Yojumbo.

Let’s add another Shiro to the pics.
I absolutely love this knife. It is sort of a mini version of the 111 Gen 5 that I posted above. The Neon Zero was released before the 111 Gen 5 and it’s obvious that the 111 takes some of its Gen 5 lines from this little beauty. This one has the Monkey Edge Frag Pattern ( MEFP ) on it and I like the texture and looks a lot more than the smooth models.
Kind of hard to get the lighting right in the pics, thankfully I don’t take pictures for a living.
