What kind of folder do you carry?

I now understand why JustinFournier JustinFournier says Shiro's are to CRK as CRK are compared to any other production knife. They're just that good....

Congrats!

Looks like an older 95 with a CF inlay and a T of course. Sorry my phone screen is so small it’s hard to tell! I don’t have a desktop right now. I love both blade profiles, 2 of my favourites. How do you find them mechanically?

I’d love to hear your thoughts on the Vanax.

Last question, what has to go now that you have a couple Shiro?

I did quite a bit of maneuvering to be able to get the Shiro, mostly selling off ones that just did not get used.

The Vanax is great. I find it sharpens easier than any premium stainless, very much like a high grade carbon. The edge retention is great. I shredded a little cardboard with an S35VN Umnumzaan and the edge was ragged in no time. Still functional, but it was surprisingly fast to degrade. This Vanax remains shaving sharp/phone book paper slicing after the same level of use. Stays really nice for several weeks of my moderate use. It's fantastic.

Mechanically they both are just premium knives. I cannot personally tell a difference between the MRB and SRB pivots. Both came to me very smooth. I need to take apart the 95 (with CF inlays) and clean it up. It's a little gunky in there. That will be my first adventure maintenancing a SRB pivot. I'll start with that before I attempt the MRB. I made a special screw driver out of some soft metal to not marr the special fasteners. Not expecting any difficulty though. These knives are both just rock solid, smooth, tight and centered.

Tony,
A penny works well for the Shiro pivots as well, won't mar them at all in my experience. Also, they are cheap.......

this is the best locking folder I've ever used

I believe that he let go of the same make that both you and I let go, of which you owned a lot more than I ever did ;)

^^^ I did. One was a 'zaan, with my wife's birth date even. I finally got fed up with the finikky edge on it (no wife jokes here!). Down to one last CRK, and that's a keeper even though the edge holding is "meh...".

Grenock Grenock , I "modified" a nickel for the job. A 1964 nickel, no less, which is a softer coin silver.

^ first paragraph with the pun: VARY funny :D

Unc. Matty predicts that you ill let go of the last CRK when your 3rd Shrio conquest commences ;)

If you couldn't modify something for the Shiro pivot screw, I don't know who could! Apart from NTM / Lorien and a bunch of others :p

I totally blame Justin JustinFournier JustinFournier for this addiction and I think that he ought to be flayed and fed to wild boars. Same goes for his partner in crime and major enabler bro @coiledwire :D

It's more than evident that I've also been bit badly by the Shiro bug and please spare me the embarrassment of digging up my old posts vouching that I would never spend more than $150
on folders  What I had meant to say was I would never spend more than $1500 on a folder and I clearly omitted that one all crucial zero at the end!

HatiOn Lite on top and NeOn Lite on the bottom. I have learned that Hati really means HaTi, i.e, half the scales are from Ti and the other half G10 or CF. This one is
white CF on the show side. NeOn scales are made from Ti.

HatiOn Lite has Vanax 37 steel and the NeOn Lite has M390 steel

In the final analysis, both folders being equal in OAL and BL, 7.5" and 3.25" respectively, my preference goes to the NeOn Lite simply because it has a bit more heft
at 3.4 ounces as opposed to the HatiOn Lite at mere 2.4 ounces. The latter is great for wearing in very light Summer shorts as it feels that it's not really there!

How is the closing action on your HatiOn? I'm a total action snob and have been through two of them, one vanax 37 and one m390, and neither were as smooth as my NeOn.

Generally, neither one closes as smoothly as their bigger and heftier siblings, like my 95T and the 111CF but that is for obvious reasons. As far as the direct comparison between the two Lites, the advantage in closing smoothness definitely goes to the NeOn Lite, as when it comes to it the HatiOn does require a bit of a slight flick to get it going which on one occasion bit me slightly on my right thumb! That said, this type of inertia does not bother me (yet) because I've come from the Spyderco world where the drop used to take more effort but also at about 1/4 of the price ;)

Correction and edited to add: I must've been still drunk from last night! The NeOn is actually pretty darn smooth even when compared to the 95T and the 111CF. Either that, or I got the hand of that one better :)

Casinostocks Casinostocks The best part about the action is the inevitable thousands of opening and closing cycles will smooth out the movement as the mating surfaces wear in. You can accelerate the process by polishing the blade flats and where applicable washers the bearings ride on.

The action is the easiest part to tune and if that is the worst part of the knife it’s definitely a good situation.

My 95 Nudist with polished flats is crazy smooth, even better than the CDs. I don’t think it could be improved.

Grats on the pickup!!

What’s next?

Umm! Don't know... I think I'm gonna park my car in this spot for a while because I have 4 so far: 111CF / 95T / HatiOn Lite / NeOn Lite... That's more than enough ;)

Some folks are pushing me toward an F3R, but we shall see. I sent the 95T to Josh at Razor Edge to fix that funky tip and also to put a 15* edge plus a microbevel on my 95T... I still don't dig M390 as I can't seem to be able to sharpen it, but I can hone it.

Ok. Time to spend a little money on a Wicked Edge.

Need to be able to work on your toys.

True and will do so eventually, but in this case, sometimes things don’t seems to come out exactly right from the manufacturer and by all accounts, Josh was the right man to have referred the matter to :)

I’ve had a couple knives pass through his hands and I can tell you he does a fine jobs, but you will be able to do the same with the WE system. All in good time!

In the next couple weeks if I can find some time I’ll get some pics of my Shiros.

Hey 91bravo 91bravo how do you feel about your crk? I saw your picture in a thread and i am so indecisive about getting a xm18 or a 21. I know they are apples and oranges but would appreciate your opinion

I love my CRKs! At the same time, I love my Hinderers as well. You are correct, apples and oranges. Some like one over the other and some like both.
