• Happy Thanksgiving to all of you! I hope that you all have something to be grateful for this year and for many years to come
  • America has reached 250 years, and I am grateful to be here, in the best country in the world. Thank every one of you who helps make this country a better place, those who have gone before and risked it all, and those who've paid the ultimate price to make the United States what we are today.

Happy Birthday America! Let Freedom Ring for all time!

What kind of folder do you carry?

I'm curious, how does the fine edge stability of their 4V compared with mine?

Why is it mushy?

Less than fantastic edge stability. Too much stuff in the matrix that isn't martensite and that particular alloy is very sensitive to quench rate which does not scale up well for larger manufacturers.
In my experimentation with it I could get pretty good results here but was not able to duplicate it elsewhere. In my experience good old-fashioned S35VN will outperform it most of the time.

Even after they stepped up hardness?

I'm sure it's much better now. But if his Inkosi Large feels pretty soft, it probably is. Chris was known to run his stuff on the soft side. His reasoning being easier to sharpen. I run mine on the hard side, my reasoning being improved edge stability allows rougher use in thinner sections due to the higher yield strength of the harder steel. And I've never had any problems sharpening it due to a pretty good sharpening stone setup. But some people may prefer softer steel. *shrug* Different strokes for different folks.
