What kind of knife person are you?

Formerly collector, now a user.

My collection was mostly safe queens at some time. Now, it's smaller and knives I now buy are mostly for use.

Use only although I love looking at the collector/custom knives I doubt I would ever spring for one.

Probably couldn't afford it anyway.

I'm a user, with a strong tendency toward hoarding. I think that the fun of the hunt, the purchase, the waiting and the trip to the mailbox is a powerful reason why I buy.

From a pure usage perspective, I could get rid of 98% of my knives and get by just fine.

Haha. I've seen pics of your collection sir. 2% is still wAy more than most people have. You've got quite a bin.

User. Where I'm from, a fella must have six things on his person at all times:

1 & 2: balls
3: knife
4: wallet
5: watch
6: keys

Pretty simple ;)

You know, a friend of mine lost #1 playing baseball. He was hit by a line drive in...well...

I got hit by a line drive once too, but it was in the head, so there was no real damage done.:D

I buy knives basically for the joy they give me. You can say I use them because I carry them all but i barely get the chance to use them. I am currently doing quantity over quality and slowly working up. Like I buy the best $30 knives (skyline, tenacious, rat-1 etc.) then move up to mid range (endura, recon 1, manix 2 etc.) after that I go high (military, ZT 0200, benchmade 710). Hopefully i will reach semi-custom (smf, sebenza, umnumzaan etc.) Once I get older and rich I will be buying customs.

The knife is the truest and most usefull multi-tool for me. In a world of automatic sub machine guns I do not consider the knife to be much of a weapon. Quality over quantity always. I have 5 good knives and 20+ from since I was a kid that are sh!!t. Three out of the five are used all the time. I will buy with technology, looks and intended use in mind but I think availability is the main factor for me unfortunately. Luckily I have found some good and suitable for me pieces during the last year, in a country that nobody cares about quality knives.

User here as well, I like all the different designs but its a tool first. Tried collecting but once I get up to three, I feel like its a waste of money just sitting there collecting dust.

I am a user. I use all the folders (9 of them) I have bought, with some assigned as beater knives, some pricier higher-quality ones see light to moderate use for a month or two in a year to prevent the valuable ones from wearing out.
"Safe Queens" doesn't exist in my inventory.

Not yet at the stage to appreciate fancy embellishments or decorative features on a knife.

Ergonomics, speed, convenience, maintainability, availability, "good" steel, practicality, value for money, etc things I try to focus when getting a knife.

A folder for me wherever I go, even when I am sleeping! :D

I will collect no more forever. However i do own 2-6" fixed, 3-4" fixed, 4- folders, 1-machete.

Quality user. You won't see me in jeans without my beat up seb back pocket, and burger front. Unless I find something to replace either, in which case its likely I'll get rid of them.

I have a couple knives I don't use. One I'm giving away, one rides in my truck and the other was a gift and is gonna get some custom work done to it.

I hope to pick up a couple task specific fixed blades too

I use my knives, some more than others. No safe queens here. I like to consider myself a knife accumulator not a knife collector (I don't have 10 of the same knife just because they're all different colors).

I'm more of a quality person. I have eight knives, and I feel that that is too many. Unfortunately three of them have too much sentimental value for me to get rid of them or carry much. So maybe it's more like I have five knives.

In fact, I've gotten rid of several knives that I just didn't end up carrying or using much. The Spyderco Para2 among them.

I'm much in the same boat. I started making knives. I figure its the next evolution of the sickness.

I'd love to start doing that! In fact I really really want to.

No time nor space to do so really puts a damper on things though.

All you need is a 1x30 belt grinder (Harbor Freight), a couple Bernzomatic torches, and a drill press. Why not?

Haha, because I'm a grad student, and anytime I'm not studying/reading I'm working to pay rent.

Besides, I live in a small apartment, and I'm pretty sure neither my roommates nor my neighbors would appreciate power tools ;)

This would be my motivation to a large extent as well. I will usually focus on Sprints, LEs, or mid tech knives though. I seem to have a little OCD as well, I have multiples of many knives. If one is a user, the other goes into a safe. I collect Spyderco Military, Para & P2 Endura, and Manix2s mostly. I have a strong love for Ti frame locks as well.

I'm a " every task a knife can be used for- it will be used for" guy, I carry as many as I can and use them for anything and everything I can
I'm quantity OF quality.... I buy as much of and as expensive as I can afford usually so there's a balance between the two

I firmly believe knives that aren't capable of being used don't deserve to be owned
