What kind of Knife would you expect a Knife Shop owner to personally carry?

My local shop carries a large selection of Spyderco, Benchmade, Microtech, and ZT knives--the owner was sporting a Benchmade 710. Was talking with him and he said the younger "kids" in the shop liked to carry the more tactical folders like the ZT's and Microtechs, but the 710 was the best every day knife for him. Funny thing was that he showed it to me and it had huge side to side play. He needs to adjust that darn thing!

I was talking to an employee in a knife store once, and he asked if I carried,so I brought out a 707 and he seemed impressed. But then he brought out a really nice pimped para 2 that blew my knife away:D

1. Something actually he sells, at least brand/maker wise, IMO if your gonna sell it carry it.
2. I like to see that they carry a variety of price points and styles. Helps make me feel that their selection in shop is solid and that the owner trusts in his stock.
3. this only applies once IMO, so if you want to carry an amazing custom piece, or something from a maker you don't (yet) carry as a please do as we all like seeing such things, but carry a secondary blade as well.
So I guess at the end of the day, I don't really care what they carry, but that what they do carry shows trust in their product. More simply put don't stock things you wouldn't be willing to use yourself.

If I owned a knife shop, I'd wear one of these with a Jarbenza tucked into each loop.

A nice custom two blade traditional probably with bolsters rather than without. Nothing loud. Understated but certainly quality. Probably not the latest trend in locks or steels. :)

Agreed, but I'd go a step further. A simple, high "bang for the buck" knife. Then I know the guy knows what he's talking about and not just trying to "push" the "flavor of the month" unless someone wants it.

Slipjoint. Let's say a Schatt&Morgan.

One good-sized fixed blade, hi-viz, where customers will see it quickly. Also a Glock carried openly in belt holster. A smaller Glock in concealed-carry holster.

I just checked out your website. If I was you I would go with the either the Carbon Fiber Southern Grind Bad Monkey or the Brous Blades T4 Flipper. I own the Bad Monkey and think it is a very nice knife. If Brous Blades every puts a thumb stud on their blade, I may have get one of those too..

At least two, 1 is definitely a spyderco, and the other could be something like a Buck 110

I would expect the shop owner to be carrying a Smith & Wesson.;)

Nothing specific, just stick with what you like in a brand you carry. Nothing fancy.

I would expect a benchmade or spyderco for the most part but a higher end shop I would say a sebenza minimum.

The shop owners I've known have usually carried a Sebenza of some kind...usually in a belt case. If they have a second knife on them it's usually been a Benchmade.

Just remembered, most seem to have some William Henrys close at hand too.

Plot twist, the owner doesn't carry knives:eek::D

It would make sense, though! Everywhere he goes in the store, there's a knife within a few inches.......:)

I'd expect him to carry a knife that is light and not too large, as has been pointed out he could grap anything in an instant if need be.
So it would be a knife capable of doing light office work, is nice to handle and made of quality material.
I think it makes sense if he carries, as it makes him a knife-person.
hope this helps
