What kind of Knife would you expect a Knife Shop owner to personally carry?

The most expensive thing in the store so he can always draw a waffling customer a little higher on the price scale. "This is what I carry, but it's pretty expensive. If you want something a little less expensive..."
But everything is less expensive!

In your case I'm gonna say something American made:D

BTW the BK14 and scales I received from you 2 weeks ago is my new favorite EDC! Thanks for the lightning fast shipping! I got the bk14 in and loved it instantly but was undecided on scales when I ordered but quickly decided I wanted the factory orange and black. I ordered those from you too knowing I'd have them in a day or two

Next is a esee 4 but I may ride out to get that one in person if I can find the time.

I would say at least two, and something different every day.

I read that Kershawguy (Dave) doesn't carry a knife at all...

The last one I thought to ask was carrying a Benchmade produced CQC-7. All beat to hell. Very well worn, and full of character. He said it was his favorite knife ever made.

The couple of tactical shops I've been to, both owners carried benchmades... one was an 810 the other a 940

I went in to Sparks shop (one stop knife shop) one time going through Kentucky and if I remember correctly, I think he carried a benchmade auto. All I remember is it was just a regular non custom beater. Pretty cool actually.

I was surprised one time when I walked in to a knife shop and the owner pulled out a CRKT when I asked him what knife was he carrying.

I would expect him/her to carry a box cutter. There would be no need to carry a knife when he is surrounded by them all day long. Besides he is actually selling them, which means he is nowhere near as crazy as many of us.

No such thing as a real knife shop anywhere close to where I live. The big knife retailers would be WalMart and BassPro. I have not seen an employee at either one that knew anything about their products, or cared to know.

I have a friend that owns a small online store, and he also goes to knife shows and gun shows. I'll have to ask what he carries.

I saw another person at a knife show. This guy sells knifemaking supplies and he was bragging about his old Spyderco Native, a fairly modestly priced knife.

In a knife store where the owner was knowledgeable and enthusiastic, I would expect him to carry a mid range Benchmade, Spyderco or ZT, but I wouldn't be surprised to see an even more expensive knife from one of the more limited brands.

Well, I've met the guy that owns Plaza Cutlery in SoCal (shout out to the best knife shop around), and he was carrying two different Sebenzas - one CCG model with a guitar on it, and one that he'd customized with a gorgeous semi-gloss chocolate brown coating of some kind. Pretty much right what I would expect from someone who owns a high-end knife shop.

Don't think I would trust an owner that just carried budget knives in a shop that carries some of the best production and custom knives in the world. I certainly wouldn't have spent the many hundreds of dollars there that I have.

Now that's pretty funny:thumbup:

Agreed, but I'd go a step further. A simple, high "bang for the buck" knife. Then I know the guy knows what he's talking about and not just trying to "push" the "flavor of the month" unless someone wants it.

Slipjoint. Let's say a Schatt&Morgan.

Here's mine.

Frankly, assuming that it's what his shop carries, I would expect him to carry a modern, well built blade; not of any the cheap Opinel junk or things like that (I know, very unpopular opinion.. But it's what I have). If someone is selling things like new ZT, Spyderco, Benchmade, etc, I would expect them to use them personally..

Something with a good story
Something he is currently selling
Something worth showcasing

Because people will ask.
