What kind of slipjoint do you carry?

I carry either a Uncle Henry 3 blade stockman or the Spyderco Pride. They are sheeple friendly looking and I dont get "glared" at.My current EDC is the 1550 st Kershaw . We have had some problems in the area and I am wanting a better self defense knife then a slipjoint.

Doh!!! I had to look up that phrase on the Internet, as it is not in my vocabulary. Ask Jeeves described the phrase as being an ancient war cry, uttered by the armies of countries bordering Switzerland. It appears that these countries have long been paralyzed with fear, at the thought of the entire Swiss Army charging them with SAKs in hand, corkscrews facing forward. I guess that their wimpy little, non-corkscrewed slipjoints have left them feeling a tad helpless against the Swiss.

But seeing as I’m in a particularly good mood and all, as the weekend is about to begin, I’ll give you a non-SAK answer. I wouldn’t want to send you Swiss border patrollers into another tizzy.

I often carry either a Buck Cadet or Old Timer Middleman. Both knives are very versatile and light in the pocket. My A.G. Russell Rope Knife gets some use also.

Puma Buffalo Horn Stockman
Bulldog Celuloid Sockman
Queen Bone Stag Large Stockman (D2)
Queen Cattle King Winterbbottom Stockman
Schrade Middle Man Stockman
Case Yellow Handle Large (4 1/4') Stockman (CV)

Thats about it. I'm fairly partial to stockmen, especially the 4"+ ones.

Ive been carrying an Old Timer from the 70's which I found at my Mom's house. It was my dad's knife. Pretty cool knife really, it has almost no blade play at all, probably due to the rust on it more than anything!:p I really like that thing though.

Always have at least one of these on me.
Case XX (pre '64) peanut file-worked and rehandled by the late Jack Woods. (I miss this gentleman a lot and I like to carry this knife.)

Tony Huffman whittler.
Any number of Dr. patterns. I like the Queen in D2 especially after I reprofiled the edge.
Case 6383 from the early '70's. (these older '83's are great knives.)

Any number of trappers and stockmen of all sizes.
An SAK resides in my car and another in my briefcase.
My multiblades see much more use than any other type of knife I carry.

It doesn't really count as EDC but I have a Bulldog Viking Whittler in my red wool coat for days when I need to pass some time, or as an emergency blade...

though SAKs were shamefully excluded from this thread, I carry a Cybertool 41 and/or a Camper most of the time. My fleece jacket always has a Plumber (1 blade, woodsaw, combo can opener/bottle opener/screwdriver)

I´ve carried a stockman as EDC for over 40 years, right now and since 1976 an Uncle Henry I bought during a trip to Canada (Montreal Olympics), also a Victorinox or Wenger in another pocket (sorry SAK).

Sometimes I carry other knives but in addition to, not instead of, those two (usually not slipjoints).

I rotate between a Buck Cadet (stockman) and a Robeson Wharncliffe (2 blades - one wharncliffe and one pen blade).

I only said no SAK's because I know almost everyone has one, hell I carry one on my work keys(Tinker), and another on my car keys(Classic) I was more interested in more traditional, slips, and I knew you had other blades besides, SAK's.:D

I keep a Case Hobo, the new style with a spoon, amber bone scales, in my bag. How anybody lives without one is beyond me.

Slipjoints are still my favorite, and I carry one every day - the tacticals just don't go over very well in some corporate settings (at least out in the open ;) )...most often a SAK Tinker, what a great little knife for all of $20.

I also tend to carry Bucks or Old Timers. Got a Queen stockman in D2 not long ago that is getting carried more frequently.

As an extra blade I sometimes carry an EKA #38. It's a very simple yet very effective pocket knife; I like it as a backup for cutting jobs that I will not do with my custom. I think the blade is made of some carbon steel; the handle is some kind of indestructable plastic :).

Either an Old Timer 80T or a Cold Steel Stockman. I'm getting an itch to try one of the Queen stockmans in D2, though...

I might possibly be the only forumite here that doesn't have an SAK. Anyone else?

If you like and use traditional slipjoints and if you like and use multi-tools (such as myself), then I can't see need for one.

Having said that, don't think for a minute that I haven't browsed for extended periods of time the possibilities of an SAK. I have. If I had to get one, it would be the Ranger. It seems to have everything I would want or need.

It was always a Schrade OT stockman until I got the Queen D2 stockman.

I carry a queen model#19 d-2 trapper everyday. The cocobolo handles are beautiful and it holds an edge like mad.

LWK Loveless. Can't remember the model off hand, but it's the newer one with the green canvas micarta. Very nice little knife.
