What knife can you get away with carring at work?

Ha ha! I can (and often do) carry a Wetterlings Forest Axe. But then it is germain to my work. More seriously I EDC a Spyderco Temperance 2 and rotate any number of folder. Military, SnG, Para 2, ZT 0551 depending on mood. Must suck to work in an office.

I carry pretty much whatever I want. Being retired has its advantages. :) When I did actually work as a DA civilian on Army bases I carried a bunch of different folders up to and including a Benchmade 975. MPs at the gates never checked. My co-workers didn't care, and oh yeah, the MP Battalion Commander was a shooting buddy of mine.

I have carried up to a Spyderco Military in the office, but that would be as big as I usually go. I regularly receive packages each day and often have to cut wire, zip ties, etc. so really using a knife is part of my job. I normally carry my Caly 3.5 or Native 5.

I hear you brother. At over a pound a foot, 500 MCM makes for a good billy club too.:D Yeah, taking a conduit bender to wire always gets some looks from other trades.

I'm with you on the Fixed Blade. I've had too many cheap folders close on me trying to get leverage for a tough strip. Plus I like a substantial handle in my hand for when I'm stripping a lot of wires. I find that the ESEE Izula II has a great handle for this, but the Bark River Bravo Necker's convex edge makes that wire insulation fly.

Oh man, I have never seen those bark river neckers before. I was contemplating an izula II ...but now I am torn between the two. I don't think the wife would think I need one of each though. I think I might hold off on purchasing more blades as I am starting to setup a forge to try my hand at some forged knives. I like the idea of forging over stock removal, as I think I would feel more connected to the entire process. I also like a nice distal taper on my blades, and this is harder to achieve with stock removal. Thanks for the suggestion on the bark river :)

3 inches is as big as I feel comfortable with at work. Caly 3 and a Leatherman Squirt are in opposing pockets. Even the Caly would probably get me in trouble if used without discretion. I work in a hospital in the pharmacy. First tome I
brought out a Delica to cut some zip ties one of the ladies I work with said "That's a big knife!" I told her , "No, that's a small knife. See it's not even as long as my index finger." Everyone then agreed it was small. Outside the locked environment of the pharmacy common sense is not so common.

I am an assistant manager at a pool so I am not supposed to carry anything, you know knives around kids and all. That being said I do carry a tinker, my bosses weren't super happy about it until I started fixing stuff with it, now they don't care about it as long as that is all I bring. That being said it helps that my bosses are my girlfriend and a guy I have known since I was 5 ;)

we have a very strict no weapons policy at work....so i carry the military. waved endura, tenacious, benchmade 950 rift, buck 375 and a spyderco ladybug on my keys...f... them

In the UK, so I carry UK legal Spydies mainly. UKPK G10, Terzuola slipit, Squeak and the Stag Kiwi 3 all get pocket time. Only one guy really gives me guff, always saying "why do you carry those, you know in a fight they will just take it and kill you." Won't accept that I don't carry for defense, but he is a general ass anyway, so easy to ignore. I did have to demonstrate that they didn't lock, and explain uk knife laws at first though, a lot of people think any knife at all is illegal in this country (that is kind of how the security forces briefs it, just the military way of covering their ass though [I find CYA is the main reason for most of the restrictions on base anyway]).

Technically I could probably carry a lock blade to work, since I am active duty military, and have a legitimate need to cut things at work, but the slipits do the job without throwing any potential legal explanations in the way.

@newcoyote: Hey we're practically neighbours.

On topic: When I was working retail, I had a folder clipped to my pocket each day. Most of the time it was my Griptilian, the orange handles attracted the least amount of negative attention.

I work alone in a small office (telecommute for a U.S. company) so I can carry anything I want. I carry a Case peanut.

I can carry pretty much anything I want, within reason. I'm not going to tote a 6"-bladed fixed blade on my belt, because it'd be inappropriate and I wouldn't have much use for it, but I regularly carry & use a 4" bladed folder. In the winter, when I have gloves on while working outside, I often carry a fixed blade in the 3" - 5" blade range. Generally, however, I stick to the smaller end of that spectrum.
Usually, I guess I'm found with a 4" blade on me, whether folding or fixed, and it's within reason.

Today I've got two Buck 110s, one on my hip (2011 production, in a nylon sheath) and one in my pocket (1973, 440C steel :D ).
Yesterday it was an Emerson 13 with a TL-29.
Day before it was the 1973 110 and a Military.
Tomorrow, it's supposed to get chilly and I'll have some outdoor work to do, so probably a puukko and the old 110 again.

i don't work in an office. i can carry pretty much anything i want. all of my EDC knives are under 4" (usually between 3.25"-3.75") because of NYC law.

I've never been one to let laws/rules and all silliness that get in the way with what I choose to carry or own.

Today it is a Kershaw Blur tanto. I often carry one of my pistols if I'm working on the road as well.

I work in a large computer based company and carry either a small Sebenza dropped in my pocket, a traditional slipjoint, or sometimes even my large Sebenza. None of which are really noticed because I never whip them out in front of fellow office mates.

Work on a Naval base (ex-military) with a no weapons policy, but I've carried a Cuda Maxx WAVE style with a custom brass pull ring sticking out of my pocket. (security wanted me to make them one.) I now only carry a Spyderco Military and even the boss comes to me when someone needs to have something cut or he'll send them my way. Several co-workers carry folders as well - my fav is a female biologist that carries a Buck folder clipped on her belt.
