What knife can you not bring yourself to like?

I'm sure most of us have one of these - a knife that seems like it should be a great fit, but then you get it in hand... Nope.

For me, it's the Spyderco Tuff, shown below in a google image search image that conveniently compares it with a PM2.

I should love it, right? It's a framelock with a steel insert. It's 3V. It's like a SpyderStrider. It's big and can demolish planets, and it's in a price range that allows me to feel justified using it! $450 Strider? Nah. That's like carrying a brick of gold around. $200 Spyderco? I can carry and use that without hesitation - and this is a knife to be used without hesitation.

BUT I CANNOT STAND IT. This is the third time I've bought one of these thinking "alright, well, last time, I just had the wrong frame of mind about it. Surely, this time I will appreciate the knife for what it is."

NOPE. I hate it. Hate it hate it hate it. I can't stand the appearance. The ergos are all wrong for me. The cutting edge is too small for how big the knife is.

Sigh.

Second in line to that is the Strider SNG - but that almost isn't fair. I like the SMF just fine, but the SNG suffers from the same size:cutting edge issue the Tuff does. Interestingly, the SNG is much smaller and has roughly the same cutting edge as the Tuff. All the same, that's another knife I have done the "this time" thing with multiple times. To settle it once and for all, I bought a $12 SNG clone to keep around so I remember how much I don't want one. I seriously just have it in my desk, never carry it, and I handle it every time I see a SnG at a good price. I say to myself "Oh, right, no." and then I move on.

What are yours?

Spyderco Tenacious for me

I just don't like the ergos. And I'm not a fan of how the edge goes all the way to the handle.

Also mine squeaks a lot and in general isn't that smooth.

Cold Steel Talwar. I tried to like it because it hits so many of the right notes for me, but the 5.5" is just too big for me to regularly carry and the handle on the 4" is too small for my hand. I almost talked myself into buying another once the XHP model hit, but I hate it when my hand feels squished when I'm trying to cut something.

You and I are on the exact same page. I bought a 5.5" Talwar back when they were relatively new and in AUS8, thought I loved it, carried it for a day...

...And then I waved it out and felt absolutely ridiculous. What an absurdly large knife. Unwieldy to an extreme. I never tried the 4", but I don't think I'll bother at this stage.

I had a Gerber LMF II. It was a solid knife and I'm sure many people love it. I hated the serrations, and the pommel was all wrong for my hand. The handle material just didn't work for me either. And I absolutely hated the sheath!

Microtech DOC. Strider flipper? Yes, please! But... It just misses with me. I'll move it for a Domino at first opportunity and get an SnG down the road.

Sadly, ZT 0630... mine had another issue beyond ergos, but the ergos were off too--at least for me. Sadly indeed--I really wanted that bad boy to fit just right! I think the combination of being a little blade/ forward heavy and the taper at the end of the handle just didn't agree with the hand.

Ironically, I'm pretty much in love with the Solo V4 Wharnie design. I'd kill just to hold one...

Lol
I'm sure they're great knives, and probably built like tanks. They even use some pretty cool materials from what I've seen.
But they look like a folding jelly bean to me lol!

Spyderco Zulu. What a novelty blade. Unique looks, smooth operation, S30V blade. All for what? The tip can't pierce, and the only practical cutting area is the hump belly.

The Navaja runs into the same issues. Impossible ergos, ridiculous blade, etc. Spyderco's Ethnic knife series borders on Tacticlol, but it's really more Ethniclol.

Spyderco PM2, Manix 2, Gayle Bradley...I do want to like them - almost desperately so, in the cases of the PM2 and Manix 2 - but it doesn't happen. (I still think that can be fixed with the right scales; but I don't know that I'm willing to keep spending to find out.)
I almost like the Military...but the length is a bit much. I do like the Sage 2, but it's too small. When I've got an afternoon without any pressing responsibilities, I still plan to disassemble the Gayle Bradley and soften all the edges on the liners.
