I KEEP A SMALL ARSENAL BY ME. SHURFIRE BACKUP, BERETTA COUGAR 9MM W/NITE SITES, AL MAR BACKUP TANTO, SMITH&WESSON .41 MAG MOUNTAIN GUN. THE WORLD IS A DANGEROUS PLACE , AND I'M A HAPPY GUY!

My Swamp Rat has the same approx reach as a bat at 27" overall. It may lack the blunt force trauma a bat has, but you can't thrust/stab with a slugger.

These two have been in my night stand drawer lately.

That is a beautiful knife! Who makes it?

Spyderco Endura 4, small Maglite, and I finally traded the 1" pipe for a 1-1/2" rock maple staff. I'm no martial artist, but that simple maple stick does more damage than a bat will ever do. The heavy stuff (ain't sayin' what) is close at hand, if needed.

thx - cpr

I don't keep any knives specifically by my bed other than the knife I carried that day or the one from the day before or something. I do have a
few large knives, swords and kali sticks that live in my room and are with in fairly easy reach if the triads do ever come a knocking though .

Actually, I keep a byrd wings, a Camillus 1760, a multi tool, and some sort of chopping tool in the bed room. They are their to help me get myself and my fiance out of the room if there is some sort of catastrophe that befalls our apartment (fire, earthquake, tornado, etc.)

For me and a lot of others who may have restrictions or live in restrictive areas, impact and edged weapons are the only way to go.

+1

I swear, sometimes I wonder if I've accidentally stumbled onto GUNforums or something, since half the responses to "what KNIFE would you use for ----" is "uh... a gun"

Yes, we know that guns are generally better for self defence, but it's simply not an option for some people, and those people get on this forum to discuss BLADES.

Please keep in mind what forum you are on.

Also, to those who seem to think that blades are only tools, it seems to me that they made pretty effective weapons for thousands of years before (and even after) firearms were perfected. :D

Never keep a weapon right next to the bed, you can do weird things in your sleep. That was told to me by a police academy instrutor. He said place the weapon where you have to get out of the bed, so I have something stashed under the the bed so I can roll out of it to the floor and reach under and grab.

Have said that, if I couldn't keep my S&W revolver under the edge of the bed, I'd go with my backup which is a couple feet of sawn off shovel handle.

As much as we like knives here, even to the point of a fetish, knives don't have that instant effect like good old blunt force truma. It takes a while to bleed out, but when bones and nerves are smashed it works right now. I'll take a good club of some sort. Plus I don't want all that blood around in these days of diseases. Who knows what that person may be carrying.

I have a Colt Series 70 1911 loaded with 230 grain SXTs but it stays in the safe. It used to be in the drawer but now that there are young kids around, my wife wants it under lock and key...

So now I have to rely on edged weapons...... but that's cool with me.

On the nightstand is a Cold Steel magnum Tanto II in San Mai and San Mai Trailmaster. IMO these are the two finest products that company makes.

Hanging off the backboard is Gransfors Small Forest Axe.

I think the closest edged blade to the bed is a Black Wind Wakizashi. Wife won't let me hang the custom swords over the bed.

I keep six hungry weasels duct taped to the end of a hockey stick next to the bed, and five vic paring knives tucked into the socks I sleep in.

Only my pocket dump.

Am I supposed to be clearing the house after a bump in the night.... with a knife?
