What knife features do you HATE that others LOVE?

(untamed)
- Single, one-sided thumbstuds! Amen ! thats one thing that kills me!i also hate black coatings,they always wear off,tanto blades,& opening holes instead of studs.i just cant warm up to a hole in the blade,even though i have a custom kasper with one,ive been tempted to sell it or fit a stone or something in there.....

Light weight. I can't understand why an adult is incapable of carrying an 8oz knife in their pants.

Mirror finish... it can look nice on certain designs but it's a pain to maintain.
Micarta ...it gets nasty real quick
Multitool...Jack of all trades and master of none
Bottle opener...I'd rather have a can opener on my knife
Eagle beak tip...no like
Skeletized handle/blade...yeah thanks my arm's so frail I can't swing a 9 ounce knife.

I'm not very picky but I have some dislikes.

Blood Grooves, tiger stripes, tanto blades (à la Strider RW-1)
wharncliffes (sorry guys)
Camo plastic handles (SOG Aegis, camo) I like spyderco's digicam, it looks like cloth and subdues the knife a bit more in the pocket.
Assisted open(I can flash out the blade of any of my non-assisted knives just as quick as I can fling out an assisted blade)

Tanto blades
Serrations
Lanyards
Liner locks
Traditional slip joint knives
Blades over 3"
Overly stated logos (Especially hate this on clothing)

Haters gonna hate!

serrations;using slotted or phillips screws on any part of the knife;also titanium scale one side g10 the other(this keeps me from buying a few knives that I otherwise like);tanto blades;420HC steel

Multitool...Jack of all trades and master of none

I'd agree that a multi-tool is equipped with a bunch of tools and pretty much none of them are as good as the specific tool on its own.
BUT: some of us don't carry a tool box full of the 'right' tools AND very often the tool on the multi-tool is sufficient to get the job done.

But if you HATE 'em then that's your right I suppose. (I LOVE 'em)

Call it a love hate relationship :D

Ehh not too much dislike but I don't really like camo or partial serrations(even though I have 4 knives with them haha before I knew to look for sites that carried the full plain edge version :/) and I can't stand tip down only carry.

Knives that are too aggressive looking.
Folding Tantos (except the tanto sebenza)
Horn Handels
Half Serrations
Bulky Folders
Assisted Opening

Useless embellishments, logos, paints, and decorations.
Finger-grooves and odd handle shapes.
Fibreglass handled impact tools.
Deep hollow grinds.
File-work.
Saw-backs.

Geez we're a positive bunch!

anyway, the things that grind my gears....
  • Camo :thumbdn::thumbdn:
  • graphics :thumbdn::thumbdn::thumbdn:
  • assisted openers :thumbdn::thumbdn::thumbdn::thumbdn:
  • Shiny clips :thumbdn::thumbdn:
  • Low riding clips :thumbdn::thumbdn::thumbdn:
  • Tip up only, liner & RIL's :thumbdn::thumbdn:
  • S30V :thumbdn::thumbdn::thumbdn::thumbdn:
  • Carbon fibre :thumbdn::thumbdn:
  • Skull beads :thumbdn::thumbdn::thumbdn::thumbdn::thumbdn:
  • Tantos :thumbdn::thumbdn::thumbdn::thumbdn:

Hey guys! I'm new to bladeforums so i just wanted to say hi!
Anyway, here are my two cents:

Serrations (particularly those partially serrated ones)
Tanto folders (hate em')
False edge blades ( don't really know why, i just don't like em)

Cheers :)

-Metal handles
-Non-ambidextrous opening systems and to a lesser extent locks (I don't much care for RILs as you can guess)
-Overly short handles
-Overly thick blade geometry, especially on knives that don't need it. Spyderco is usually great here, the only knife that has let me down is their Kiwi, which I love anyway.
-Excessive weight.
-Mentioned excessively, but anything "tacticool". I'm not a soldier, I'm a student as well as a Scout. Digital camouflage, black on black have made me rage in the past. My Orange Military, however, has been saved many times by the colour.
-Overly thick blade geometry.
-I may be an odd one out here, but "busy" designs-anything with stunning handle material and a damascus blade, generally, isn't too nice in my book. Example? Yuna's QI knife. It's a really, really spectacular knife-but I'd prefer it either with a plain blade or a simpler handle.

Pocket clips! There, I said it. I have lost too many pairs of jeans in the past.:grumpy:

Double-edged blades. Unless I am doing middle ages re-enactment (which I don't) I don't need nor can I make use of a dagger.

Chisel grinds on folders, graphic embellishment, marketing hype, automatics or assisteds, anything with a coil or wire spring mechanism, an abundance of texturing or milled profiling of the handle slabs, anything that does not have an ergonomically contoured handle, anything that rattles or clicks, anything "tacticool", anything "fantasy", tip up carry on folders and worst of all...overly thick blades.

I don't hate these features, but they will keep me from buying the knife if I can find a similar model without them...

Thumb-studs - rather have the hole.

Lanyard holes on a folder - I know several folks use lanyards on their folders effectively, but I just won't ever do it.

Lack of thumb-ramp/finger choil - I use these features so much that I'm spoiled with them.

Aus8 Steel (and 8CR13Mov)

Super-fat blade bellies

Oh and Serrations on Combo blades - I get that sometimes you want a fully serrated blade, but a combo-blade to me is like a knife that fails at both.
