What knife is in your PSK?

So, I'm creating a bunch of PSKs and plan on storing one
in various places (car, backpack, laptop bag, etc.).

I need good cheap knives that are smallish and lightweight.
I have a lot of knives but most are 'big.'
I want my PSKs to be lightweight so I can just stick it in one pocket
and forget about it.

Price limit is $20. Closed length limit is about 3".

What I've been looking at so far:
Buck MiniBuck $6 - this seems like a really good deal.
Byrd Finch $12
Vic Classic $13 - i have one, blade seems like it could snap making a fuzz stick.
Byrd Robin Lightweight $16 - This may be pushing it size wise.
Gerber LST $17 - 440 steel so prob. 440A .... yuck.

Am I missing anything? What do you guys think?

I have an orange Spyderco Ladybug 3 in my Doug Ritter PSK, which will be replaced by a Yellow H1 Spyderco Ladybug when it comes out

The only "PSK" I have is meant for hiking, assembled in an old portable CD pouch. Due to the size, I chose Gerber Gator. Its ~4" closed, but provides an excellent grip, and feels warm even in winter.

Gerber LST $17 - 440 steel so prob. 440A .... yuck.

The Gerber LST's are 420HC and still made in the USA. They are great little knives. I've had my LST Magnum Jr. for probably 15 years and it still does whats asked of it. It sharpens easy, takes a great edge and is dependable as a hammer when used as a knife.

BTW, I prefer 420HC to 440A & 440B by a pretty big margin. Take a look at the Magnum Jr. Its not pretty but it works.

I have a couple of JK Keychain knives. I think they are $20 each with a sheath and I don't believe you would have to worry about one breaking.

My PSK contains a Wenger Tradesman SAK. It's hard to imagine a scenario where I would end up with my PSK but not my EDC fixed blade, so I opted to include a smaller, more versatile tool in my PSK.

I find it to be very useful, and I would recommend packing a SAK like the Vic Classic.

All the best,

- Mike

JK tin knives are definatly great for that, but i dont know how much they are ( but they are free if you spend $80 on another knife). other than that, i would go for a vic farmer.

Doug always designs great stuff. I'm going to have to get me a couple of them little survival kit knives. :)

In My Truck it's the Pukkofly!

#9692; The folder is a marriage of cultures. It's a butterfly knife with a puukko blade. The stainless blade is about 3 3/4", long 13/16" wide and .098" thick. The black nylon handles are about 4 1/4" long, and the knife weighs about 2 3/4 ounces. (Red handles are no longer avaialble.) It's made in Sorsakoski Finland. $17.

Sweet blades HD!

In my PSK is one of Koyotes PSK knives right now. Im gonna replace it with a modded SAK farmer though once I get one. I want a Farmer withonly the SAW and large blade. Then the Koyote PSK will go in a sheath on my Archery armguard.

I went through this exercise a few weeks ago and ended up buying a couple Gerber UL LST's. I also have a mini-Buck (Bantam) that came with a 110 I bought through LL Bean. I wanted one for an Altoid tin PSK and wanted to stick one in each of a couple Ritter PSP's I have.

All are pretty decent little knives for basic tasks.

I have a Plain Edge Byrd Rescue Junior. It actually fits very well in my PSK and the knife was only about $17.

SAK's-- Classic, Farmer or Hiker for PSK's (not all at once).

I always have a Classic on my "survival keychain" with compass, LED light, mini firesteel, and whistle. I like the classic/trekker combo for hiking.
