What knife is in your PSK?

Whenever I end up using a stash knife I always think: "Hey what a great little knife"! Ending up carrying it for a while so it stops being a stash knife!

Dammit I lost my Farmer. Just do not know what I have done with it! :(

Ouch!! Thats why I keep spares in every color. ;)

If you wanna replace it, Sierra Trading Post has em in silver on closeout for CHEAP right now. I just scored me 2. They have the blue and red with the flashlights too, but they arent cheap.

Check the 5-10$ bins at the smaller knife and gun shows in your town. Portland made Gerbers, beat up SAKs, and random Barlows seem to be pretty common fare.

Oh, and my PSK knife is the smallest locking Opinel I could find, 3 or 3.5" blade. 12$

Good hunting.

I picked up all of my classics at a farmers market in Lancaster. Guy had a box of all kinds, from slipjoints to saks to low quality locking folders. 3-5 bucks each, varying degrees of quality.

Id opt for something larger and definitely fixed in 6 - 8 inch range (total length). I dont think the blade needs to fit inside some container with rest of the stuff.

I've carried a SAK Classic everyday for well over 30 years. While it's a very useful little tool, the blade is mostly useless for much more than opening packages and envelopes (something you're not likely to be doing in a survival situation). I would opt for a sturdier PSK knife than a SAK Classic.

My mini-PSK has a Spyderco Delica that cost about $20 buck when I bought 20 years ago. Not sure about the price on it now, but I used to have that as an EDC and loved it. It is very lightweight and very simple to open and close one handed.

My next kit is a little bulkier (fits in my BDU cargo pocket) and I have Leatherman micro tool in there. I got that as a gift and I am not sure of the price, but will do in a pinch.

I like to go day hiking with a Camel Bak Ambush hydration pack. I bought a Columbia River Knife and Tool (CRKT) knife called the HAWK K-AT for $20 at a show recently. I like that it is a small fixed blade (2+ inches). I keep it on my shoulder strap to replace the Gerber Paraframe folder I used to keep there. The Gerber Paraframe set me back about $20 also, but I like a fixed blade better. The Gerber Paraframe had some features I did not like all that much and did not know until I bought one and used it.

In the hydration pack pocket I keep a Buck Diamondback fixed blade (3+ inch blade) that I got from Cabela's on close out for $7.00.

I have other kits (one for my hunting pack, one for the car, etc.) and I seemed to have acquired a bunch of Buck knives for them. I prefer fixed blades and since I have never really paid a lot for knives, maybe that is why. I know I have 2 Buck Lite folders somewhere and they are great for the price and weight.

Good luck!

I don't have a psk yet, but what I'd keep in it, is a couple moras, and a leathermen kick. Maybe some random saks too.

In the PSK that I carry in my backpack - the knife is a Cold Steel Twistmaster. It's Carbon V steel, which is easy to sharpen.

Not to be argumentative, but I don't see the point to a PSK knife - assuming it is supposed to be small enough to fit in a small kit. How many of us EDC some sort of knife (or 2) anyway? For me, a PSK is very small, holding minimal amount of gear, that is a backup only in time of emergencies when you are separated from the rest of your gear.

My idea:

The tin is 3" in diameter.

For awhile I experimented with modified utility blades that could be mounted to a stick handle,

and while they work ok, they don't take the place of my Buck Alpha Dorado and Spyderco Manix that I EDC.

Just my opinion, of course, YMMV.

I have a small belt back for emergencies and i have a Rucksack in that one. It just happen to fit perfect in a external pocket on the pouch.
