What knife made you say "I don't really need any more"?

I was thinking today that for all intents and purposes, my cutting needs are covered with the knives I have. It was buying the para 2 that lead me to think that I really don't NEED any more blades. I am satisfied with what I have and any of my cutting needs will be taken care of with what I have. So in my situation, the Para 2 is the knife that made me realize that I don't need any more knives. It (or one of my others) will do everything I need. I am not saying I won't buy another knife but the future knives will be just because I want them, not because I need them. My questions are, What was the knife that did that for you? Is there such a knife for you? If I were to buy any more knives, would that step make me a bona fide "enthusiast" (or addict as some would call it)?

I don't understand- I don't think I will ever get to the point where I will say that. There is no class of knives where I don't already have more than I can use, but I might still buy more if I see something I like. As "collectors", even using a loose definition of that word, we only have to justify spending the money for the item, we don't have to justify buying the item. Buying a knife when you need to make a house payment is not a wise use of your funds and not properly caring for your family, but if you have the funds and you want another to add to your "collection", then that is completely up to you.

As for having more knives than you can use, I've heard people say "two is one, and one is none", IOW if you have one knife for use, and something happens to it, then you have none. And something could happen to it even just moments before you need it. So just based on that you can justify having an extra or two. I've also heard "a pair and a spare", which is the same line of thinking. You have the one that you are using, which could disappear any moment, then your second one would become the first one, and the third one would become the spare.

Interestingly enough I have been involved in collecting wrist watches in the past. I was collecting knives before that and so it became really apparent to me that most wrist watch collectors will want to wear all of their watches, whereas most knife collectors don't actually use many of their knives. I've seen some amazing custom knives that I can't imagine anyone actually using to chop limbs or work on game animals with. But if a watch collector finds that they aren't wearing one of their watches, they are quick to sell or trade it for something that they think they will actually wear. They have a harder time justifying buying more watches because they are limited in how many watches they can wear at a time. Knife collectors can buy knives with no intention of ever actually using them, and as for the ones that they actually use, they can carry more than one at a time even! I also noted that watch collectors are fairly fickle and the watch that they bought and liked to wear yesterday will become old to them and be on the auction block today or tomorrow.
I have been involved in

a free spyderco kiwi3. thats when it happened. I opened up case saw all the knives in there, put the kiwi3 in there and said to myself" yeah this is getting outta hand":)

I've said that each time getting my cold steel voyagers, Bucks, Neitos, CRKT M21 14 SF, Cold Steel "Necks", CRKT M21/M16 14 SFG's and finally my ZT0200ST

I think I'll stop now (Oh wait I said that already. LOL):D:D

I guess I reached that point a good long while ago...I've known for a long time that I don't really need any more than my SAK and some kitchen cutlery, realistically. I guess I keep buying knives because I find myself wanting to try different and nifty gadgets, maybe see if there's some great steel or mechanism that I like better than what I already have or something like that. I guess there isn't really any good reason for me to keep buying different knives, but I do it anyway. :p

Almost everytime I get a new one in the mail. Unfortunately, it's only a temporary condition that goes away after a week or two.

when i got my spyderco massad ayoob. and the only reason why i say that is bc i never carry it. it just sits on a display stand looking collectible. My first knife that was just for collecting. though iv been thinking about giving her another try

All of them have made me say that.

I have a hard time keeping (some) promises.

WILL...
NEVER...
HAPPEN...

but maybe if I finally break down and get an XM-24, that will be the last...not really

For me, it's a passtime. I look at forums to burn time while doing stuff. Whenever I buy a knife, I say "this will be the last one," but I always find another in a couple weeks just because I'm looking at stuff all the time. That being said, I don't have a lot of knives... I usually sell them if I don't use them. Don't really see the point of having a ton of folders if I only carry one.

I'm the same way. I don't usually have a lot at one time. If I don't like something or carry it less often, I'll trade It for something I want or haven't yet tried.....or sell it.

I always manage to find something I don't like about my current knife and end up buying another one.

That happened to me around the time I purchased my first knife...long, long ago. But, what does it matter? If you are a collector, you will collect; if not knives then something else.

n2s

it wasn't any one particular knife; i just decided that after a session of looking and reading about current and new models i came to the realization that i have more than enough knives for any edc, camping or working situation. anything new is just a different shade of the same knife that i already have, and to purchase is just to continue a cycle of pointless spending...i do not like pointless spending.

so for all intent and purposes, i'm done buying anymore fixed knives and folders.

now kitchen cutlery, i'm still in the market for...

XM-18 made me say that

then I preordered a m390 spyderco military, then a zdp ladybug.....

It's called an addiction for a reason ;)
