Okay, I was wondering what knife would you grab if there was a knock on your door at....let's say 2:00am.

With all mall ninja replies and guns aside, which knife would you reach for and walk to the door to see who it is?

I have concluded that I would like my Spyderco Military due to it's size, length, and durability. It's a very comforting knife to have and it's something that I would feel better having in my hand when looking through the peephole.

So, what about you guys?

ps. please don't turn this into prac-tac :foot:

lets see, front door area = small confined space, not much room to move about.....so i prefer any one of my Emerson folders for a quick controlled slash.

A knife would not be my first choice in such a scenario... I'd probably opt for a jo stick, baton or other effective bludgeon. But, I have many a blade I could reach for if needs be:

I'd just take my cat. Piss her off and throw her at the possible intruder.

I'm very proud of my ability to sharpen knives, but I don't think there's a knife made that's sharper than my cat's claws. She can draw blood just from lightly dragging a claw on skin.

The only knife at bedside is a glow in the dark Vic Classic... that won't do much damage to a would-be assassin. The big knives are locked in the closet.

But I live in the middle of nowhere and my next door neighbor is a cop. No one's gonna break into a house with a police car in the next driveway.

Well, I'd prolly go for the golf club by the door, but you asked for a knife.

How about the BM630 I double edged and wave modded?

...or my cat just might do my dirty work for me :D

I wouldn't...

If I was unable to answer the door at 2 am with a firearm in my hand I would not answer it at all...I would dial 911 instead.

Probably a Spyderco Street Beat or the larger version of the same, the Fred Perrin Fixed.

I absolutely love the "generic" looking cats

LOL, yeah, there's a stray here at my complex that looks just like my cat, well, your cat too :D Sometimes I think it's mine that got loose, I worry about that since she's an indoor cat :o

But for an indoor cat she has the sharpest damn claws I've ever felt. My couches feel her wrath, and then my cat feels my fiance's wrath for clawing the couches :D

Wow, i'd just open the door...Robbers over here dont knock on the door asking to be let in.

TAH, for a moment I had a flashback of my ex! The I realized ... she wouldn't be holding the knife behind her back ...

Seriously, I'm with Ozy on this one. I'd expect a neighbor knocking on my door, 2 AM or 2 PM.

BK9 when there's "room to move" or Cold Steel AK-47--that knife just stays in your hand like a war club, gives me a feeling of confidence. Of course, I've never needed to pull out a knife to defend my life, thank God.

Well if I HAD to answer the door and I HAD to have only a knife, I would most likely grab my kershaw outcast, although I think something like the WWI trench knives would be the best answer to your scenario

Visitors are very rare around where I live, cyotes are more of a concern. If intruders were a concern I'd go for my 36" wrecking bar or 5lb axe. I also spend a fair amount of time in the bush near the Rockies, in those cases it's usually just whatever knife I have on me, though I did put a nice back edge on my new ScrapYard SOD just to make me feel a little safer in the bush.
