What Knife Makes You Feel Safe?

Gerber Machete...it is big enough that it could be intimidating and a heck of a user....and even it if breaks as a result of use I am only out 20 bucks.

Come to think of it, I would probably elect not to open my door. Those who would need me at 2am have my phone number or would be screaming at the top of their lungs to open up.

Not sure about feeling safe and the exact scenario but I assume the point is, given the choice of any of your knives in a fight, what would you take? So instead of showing a gun or making a joke; I'll show some of my selections. My only question for your other guys is why in the world would you choose a folder in a situation where you need a real fighting knife? Sorry I had to make a little joke, but I still wouldn't consider a folder when I could pull one of these.

If for some unknown reason,I couldn't reach for my sidearm or long gun(BTW,Highly unlikely),I'd grab my BRK&T Rogue with a Carson M-4 as a back up

NICE Rogue, but your Carson looks a lot like an S-2. Not a bad choice either. :)

Nice set of blades you have there. I assume you are directing this at my post. I posted a picture of my sidearm with the fixed blade that resides next to my bed. I also answered the question in my previous post A SOG S5 TIGERSHARK. As far as a folder for a defensive weapon I don't think a 610 Rukus or any other large high end folder is anything you want to be on the recieving end of.

Ok, upon thinking about the question a bit more, I might be inclined to kick the door down from the inside, thus clobbering said door knocker with 6ft wooden door.

(mormons dont come knocking @ 2am do they?)

Not just your post but most of the guys mentioned folders and I have some pretty decent folders as well. But in my book given the choice of a great folder and a great fixed blade, the folder is a looser every time.

The only reason I would ever choose a folder over a fixed blade is where I needed to save space as a primary consideration. By the way I also have a HK 45 tactical, nice choice.

Well if I HAD to answer the door and I HAD to have only a knife, I would most likely grab my kershaw outcast, although I think something like the WWI trench knives would be the best answer to your scenario
Ah, you beat me to it! Yep, Outcast.

Though I can't imagine why I wouldn't grab the 1911, instead.

I agree with you 100% given a choice im grabbing the biggest fixed blade I can hold.:)

By the way I was not kidding about your 4 some you do have some nice steel there Brother

that chainsaw made me think of this:

If I had to answer the door at two o'clock in the morning for my neighbor, I'd expect that individual to call first. I don't like the idea of the whole neighborhood parading around my property in the dark unannounced. :D

That being said, answering the door without a firearm wouldn't put me in a bright spot, either. Therefore, the knife that I answer the door with would be the Ontario bayonet attached to the muzzle of my Wilson Tactical 870 on a mount like the old "trench gun" of WWI fame (M1917, maybe?). Barrying that, I'd have a P'kal or Civilian by Spyderco for the enclosed space of a foyer.

I've actually been in this situation, where I heard a noise, or people on my front porch, and got up to investigate. Every time I grab my Busse Satin Jack TAC.

If I couldn't grab my Glock 20 I will grab either my Gray Man West Nile Warrior or my Strider MV.

At 2 a.m., I'm not going to the door with a knife. Period.

I actually don't have a knife handy that I would even want at the door at that time of night. A SAK Climber isn't exactly threatening. :D

10" Wusthof Chef knife if push came to shove, I suppose.

Unfortunately we have to keep our guns & ammo locked up in different safes but I'm with you - except I'd grab the 8" Chinese cleaver or re-shaped 12" Sabatier butchers and a very grumpy challenge before opening anything.
