My son just passed his Eagle board of review a couple of days ago and now I'd like to get him a nice knife as a gift.
What is your favorite knife or best suggestion for a knife?? - ( up to the $150 dollar range )

a benchmade rukus would be a great gift, i believe its 160 though. might want to check out a spyderco manix, and military.
or you could get a great fixed blade from cold steel, like an outdoorsman or recon bowie.

A very high quality AMERICAN made knife company with some of the finest detailed knives I have ever seen come from a factory. Granted it has runs of around 400 pieces only of each model to insure such a high standard.
DO a search on Canal Street and read the comments. You can't go wrong for such a well deserving son. They are as close to gift wrapped as they can be when they arrive. VERY FANCY presentation. A lifetime heirloom quality blade.
Treat that son to what he deserves for his years of hard work. Give him a memory as well.

Peace.

Maybe a Camillus pocket knife from the Scout line? I have a Woodsman which has locking main blade and locking saw. I have always wanted a knife like this one since losing a similiar one (but slipjoint). You may also try Victorinox Scout SAKs. I, myself, am an Eagle scout... my congratulations to you and your son.

It really depends on what you want. If you wnat a classy looking knife, check out the slip joint or lockback folders on A.G. Russell- you should be able to find a few with really nice handle material that are within or just above your price range. If you want a very usable, newer style knife, check out any of Benchmade's pieces (generally more tactical looking), or Spyderco Knives (they take some getting used to visually, but otherwise are great knives).

Here are a few nice looking locking knives from A.G. Russell:

Mcusta Damascus Folder
Mother of Pearl Kiwi
Mother of Pearl and Abalone
Boker Gents Folders in Damasteel and MoP

Edit-
If you want a slip joint, I'd reccomend either Queen or Schatt and Morgan. I've had nothing but good experiences with either of them, and their knives are always useful.
Schatt and Morgan Whittler Pearl

first off, try your hardest to keep it american. secondly, you know hes going to carry it everywhere, so keep it legal, and to keep it affordable, stay away from ag russel lol. It's also not as bad if he loses it. Id go for something traditional, and sheeple friendly, like camillus' boyscout model. or maybe a nice queen, or case. I think hell appreciate it more, if he can actually get some good use out of it every day. when you get him his knife, get him a little lanyard, with some sort of clip on the end. so he can, what we call in the army, 'dummy cord' it to his belt loop. then he can just slip the knife in his pocket, and he'll never lose it. :)

He had a camillus as a Cub Scout!!! As a Boy Scout he always carried a Victorinox SAK with locking blade ( Rucksack I believe ). Was hoping to upscale some although the Swiss has done everything he has needed.
The Damascus Folder looks interesting as does the benchmade rukus . How about a Sog Seal pup... or should I stick to folders only?

It really depends on what you want. There are few reasons for a "tactical" fixed blade. A nice folder on the otherhand is a symbol of class, is useful, and can generally go anywhere that you might need it.

Edit- I thought that you were talking about a gift knife. Seeing as it looks like you're searching for his next beater knife, I'd avoid those links that I gave.

If you want more modern designs, check here. This should provide you an ample selction fo useable knives that will suit many different tastes. I'd avoid CRKT folders, do my best to avoid 420HC because 420HC blades don't get hard enough to hold an edge aswell as many other steels.

If you want to give him a fixed blade I would suggest a Bark River. For a folder Spyderco Manix or Mini Manix. They are very nice with strong locks.Congrats on Eagle Scout. That is awesome!:)

Congrats on your son's achivement.

IMO, an engraved slipjoint would fit the occasion.

Congrats on eagle, my cousin just got his last year:thumbup: Are you looking for a nice presentational knife or something that he can beat on or loose? For a nice knife what is your spending limit? What features were you looking for? Has he pointed out anything in particular? I dont want to recommend a knife that doesnt meet any criteria

A.G. Russell Premium Scout Knife. Traditional Boy Scout pattern,Very upscale, ATS 34 knife blade, with real stag handle slabs. Around $100.

I have one from Blade 2005 put away for my 2 year old grandson. Have to get another one for my pending grandaughter.

Give him something he'll use day in and day out.
Like a AG Russell Scout Knife or Vic SAK Soldier.
Or just get him a Busse! :-)

How about a custom knife?

Check out the maker's section here on BF. There are many small to medium fixed blades over there in your price range.

I would put a few bucks aside for a nice engraving with his name, BSA, Eagle Scout, and the date. I woulda been thrilled to get a nice custom when I made Eagle Scout!

If you don't see what you want over there, contact one of us directly, or wait a few days and check again!

Good luck and congrats!
Scott

I've know a few people who earned their Eagle Scout. I have alot of respect for all the hard work and dedication it takes to earn it.

I'd go with something functional but a little classy. I liked Nordic Viking's idea of getting it engraved.

Tell your son "Congradulations" for me.

Ric

AG Russell makes a pretty nice scout knife with 154CM steel for the main blade. It has to be something traditional, get him the tactical stuff later.

I was looking at the A. G. Russell site and would recommend that you get him the Jigged Bone Boy Scout Knife and spend the rest of the money to get it engraved as NV suggested.

BTW, one of these days, I am going to break down and buy one of his Grandad's Toothpicks. I keep seeing them and wanting one.

I would get him one of the new Swamprat Howling Rats, who would not be pleased as punch to get one of those ?
