What Knife would you like to see made?

SDS Posted this a ways back.

He says 1/4" Stock and Brass Guard.

Maybe a little Thinner?

BRKT Could bring back the Canadian Camp Knife - that wouldn't hurt my feelings.

I've approached a couple of makers about doing one of these in 3/16" A2 or 5160 with wood grips, I never get a response so I must be alone in liking the design:D...

Or this:

I want someone, anyone to make a one hand opening folder with a pocket clip and a carbon steel blade. A2, O1, 1095, doesn't matter. I just want an easy to sharpen, tough, edge holding blade in a folder that I can carry every day. Don't know why the only carbon pocket knives available are slip joints.

I will before this summer. A liner lock with titanium liners, G10 scales and O1 blade. I'm still learning and have not yet designed it but I will make it happen. I have my mind set on it:D

I'd like to see Spyderco make a 5/16th thick H1 chopper about the size of the Forester but no recurve and hidden tang inside an FRN handle.

Regarding carbon steel folders, Spyderco and Benchmade both have M4 folders out, and while it's not a true carbon steel there are CPMD2 Spydercos on the secondary market still. There are plenty of stainless steels that are reasonably tough, easy to sharpen an hold an edge IMO. VG10 performs close to 1095 for me, except it is stainless.

ioh, and "finger choils." die. How about making a handle that is comfortable and a blade that comes back to the hand so that you don't need to choke up? The handle is the handle and the blade is the blade. If you have to hold the blade to use the knife then the knife is designed poorly.

+500.

how about a fixed blade Swiss Army Knife... same style blade and handle, just no folding action that can gunk up or fail on you. Something small, simple and cheap for a PSK or a piggyback to a big beater.

And I will be first in line Ray :D

%" bladed field knife patterned after the old roachbelly pattern. Preferably in O-1 with a full flat grind and convex edge, Desert Ironwood handle.

huh. interesting reading, guys.

though, if I can offer a comment- I've done my share of 1/4 inch full convex BIG choppers now and a half inch thick blade is asking for a chiropractor. a 1/4 inch nominal spine about 1.75 inches wide on a 14 inch blade length is a good 2.5 pound knife. (counting the 7 inches of handle) asking to TRIPLE that? wow. It'll hit like a sledgehammer, though.

hey Koyote!

I can swing a 20lb - 30 lb sledge all day with no effect. Hell if the zombies come i'm quite happy to pick up a sledgehammer and start swinging!

bring on the bog choppers!

heck i edc my SY SOD........

i have a couple of HI kuks with 1/2" spines but i have never seen one in a stock removal blade. They do have a heft to them.

the bowies i use have 5/16" spines with a distal taper and run less than 20oz. Not pure choppers but they will get it done.

I wish powder coating big blades would go out of fashion and EVERYTHING was just made made with a satin finish. Could you imagine.

I just want the Cobbler back on Ragweedforge :o.

Absolutely. I only bought one before they were discontinued. I've almost got it finished with walnut scales. Great, superlight and sharp. I'd also like that shape a tad thicker and in the same price range.

I'm with Tknives and Ray. I have enough of D2 knives. The M4 bradley is nice, but it should be a beginning. Bearing steels like 52100, Tool steels like O-1, W1/2, Alloys like the vascowear clones PD#1, Cruware, etc.

High speed steels are some of my favorite. M2 at full hardness, M4, Hell, M42 and CPM Rex 20 ( M62), etc.

How about 10V for those that can't get enough of those evil, devil worshipping Vanadium carbides, with the blade run at RC 64.

Stainless steels? We don't need no stinkin stainless steels!

 Ray you might as well put me down for one.:thumbup: Cant wait to see it!

Considering the different genres that have surfaced over the years, I say its the Scagels' turn to shine

Although I'm a foreigner, I do appreciate some American period and old school designs like the Hudson Bay camp knife and the early pocket folders. The simple, rustic but highly practical attributes of these blades really speak to me.

I've always been fond of W. Scagel's designs, specifically the dropped blade below the spine/handle coupled with the slight "swayback" spine on the blade. This strikes me as a very efficient and functional design for camp and kitchen (also why I immediately liked Rick/Magnussen's S-Curve knife the first time I saw it ). I understand Bo Randall got the inspiration to make his knives from these.

Oh yeah, a tool-steel folder with a frame lock would be too cool! The last folder that got such attention were the Severtech knives almost a decade ago, but those were autos. I like to keep it simple and preferably ergonomic :smiles:.
