What knife would you like to see next from CPK?

I don't concern myself with what's illegal to own. I concern myself with what's illegal to carry.

Simple reason: if its illegal to carry, it's illegal to own. If it's illegal to carry (at all, not just in certain situations like hunting), then I have no use for it because I'm not paying good $ for something I can't actually legally use.

Add on that a swedge (not sharpened) will penetrate on a stab almost as well as a double edged knife and the difference between the double edge and the single edge is reduced to being able to cut on two slicing attacks, but daggers aren't a slicing attack kinda weapon. They are a stabbing weapon. Sacrificing 1 edge is actually pretty inconsequential to me. If the advantage pf a double edge was substantially greater I might feel different, but it's not.

I can legally strap a samurai sword to my hip and walk around in downtown. Cops might give me shit, but they'd not be able to give me trouble over the sword.

Put a 2" dagger on my belt and it's a major offense.

Go figure, but USA laws are asinine in many cases. We have a right that says we can keep & bear arms (period, no limits).....yet we have gun control and laws that prevent me from legally carrying without having a permit. Yet I have the right to bear arms (lexicon at the time in the USA, bearing something meant to carry something upon your body).

The USA is fucked, totally. We've allowed our government to divide us, strip our rights, and manipulate us. Our government isn't to be trusted because it's not serving us or the people's interests anymore (even one of the founding fathers of the USA is known to have said something to the effect of: "it is the DUTY of every american to disobey any law that runs contrary to the constitution." Mind you, our government is way more complex than "trump did this," even if our media wants to make it out that way. Trump is the best thing that has happened to the usa since ive been alive, mind you. Imho if Biden is elected, divest in the USA because we signed a suicide pact, and the rest of the world is going to jump off that cliff with us. If Biden is elected, Elizabeth Warren (she's fucking psycho) will be the actual decision maker, as Biden is not able to function as president, he can't even show for a debate against trump......

we do sometimes have the occasional foul language on this forum but let's please keep it to a minimum. politics referring to knife laws might be fair game if we're careful to tiptoe around the politics, but politics of this nature does not belong on my forum.

You won't have to worry about it again.

I get the feeling from Lorien that I'm not welcome here. If that's the case, please let me know and I will happily oblige.

As far as I can tell you are an excellent new member here. You are very welcome here, just please keep the politics at the political arena subforum not here. Thanks.

All knife enthusiasts are welcome here, but things stay civil because certain contentious topics like politics or religion are kept off the forum.

There are plenty of other places where those topics can be discussed.

That's all I'll say on that.

^that part.

We all come here because we're interested in knives- to scratch that itch. Nobody wants to hear anyone's political opinions we get that everywhere else.

If you want to talk politics, there is actually a subforum just for that. I've been spending a little, (largely fruitless) time in there lately, you should check it out I think you'll find a lot of like minded regulars.

Im very relieved to hear that was your intended message. I liked you and your work and your useful artistry (knife design).

Now that everyone's chimed in:
1) I'll not politic, pinky swear
2) My apologies to everyone in the thread for causing the disruption.
3) I'd very much like to move on now that the matter is settled, mostly so that we can get back to telling Nathan what we want him to make for us.

I'd like to see this kephart be a thin slicer. Something I could skin and debone deer with. CPK builds some of the best large blades out there IMO, so lets see something small, with a large belly and thin, thin thin!

Do you think that the DEK or bad-idea-FK2 or EDC are too chunky for processing game? FK2 has a fat bellay

I imagined the kephart with FK2 handles to be a jack of all trades/specialize-in-none type.

I'm hoping for 90's cocaine rocker thin.

Most likely you will not see something extremely thin from CPK. A long time ago I had asked Nathan if he was against something really thin at the ricasso, say, <.125" because her didn't want some knuckle head / numbnut doing something totally inappropriate with a thinly stocked CPK, somehow breaks it and then probably starts howling and hollering about the vaunted D3V not to be all that! Nathan then confirmed that he's apprehensive about making such blades (let's say 4" or longer) for those kinda reasons. I dunno though, he may have changed his mind since then.

Other than being made of a high hardness, abrasion resistant, unbreakable super steel I will attempt to copy the original closely. I had to rein in my natural tendencies to tweak, tweak, tweak. It's not thick, but it's not super thin either. ~.160" at the ricasso. I want to make the knife that Horace would choose today, I think it would be hubris to modify his design on this project. I'll stick to the metallurgy on this one and leave the geometry alone.
