What knife would you like to see next from CPK?

The Shiv was also called the Pig Sticker. I'm pretty sure a well placed stab could puncture an artery in anything walking these days.

Many have mentioned folders. If you go that direction, I know we can count on something other than a big ol' piece of overbuilt, underdesigned metal. The only reason anyone really needs a folder is as a stepdown from a fixed blade. The early and later evolution toward those big pieces of metal, that function better as anchors, was initially due to desire to carry less, downsize the fixed blade, etc.

The market is overflowing with all those heavy tacticals only because the 20th and early 21st century were and still are driven by wars, as are games - and in the last 15 years, folders. Within a few years they will be close to worthless and no longer desirable. Warriors will pretty much always have use for such knives, but most others will again learn the value of lightness in folders.

Now, please don't be offended by the above dialogue - it's not aimed at anyone. I just want to make the point that good design with weight being one of the top two considerations would be helpful. I happen to like Lorien's Bingalor design(see pics below - gorgeous Koa) , but can make my lightest knife do pretty much any task. At 1.6 oz, my top carry is a William Henry T12CF linerlock - two slabs of carbon fiber, one titanium liner, one clip - and a blade. If you go for a folder, keep it light. One person's opinion.

I agree that many folders are overbuilt, and many are basically paper weights, but if I used one that was 1.6oz in my line of work it would be 2 or more pieces that weigh .8oz or less in a hurry. I enjoyed having my carbon fiber Sodbuster but I was scared if I pulled it out and lent it to someone at work to cut a big rope or a heavy nylon lifting strap it would be destroyed. My Starbenza 25 is very heavy I guess but with that weight comes confidence and it is a very efficient knife IMO.

I was just ready for a late night rant when I posted #266. There are plenty of folders that are well built for work, but so many others that have no good reason to exist. As far as suggestions about a CPK folder is concerned, I could easily have limited my thoughts to one sentence about weight were it not rant time, lol.

I totally agree, I see so many folders that I wouldn't keep if they were free. I'm in the process of getting rid of my XM-18 because I just don't see the WOW in it as others do. My CRK is about to be my only folder unless Nathan comes up with something I can't live without. I hope it's beefy enough for work but no more than that. It will be a Performance Knife after all.

if that Bingalor you have there, (nice one, btw!) didn't have zirc and stabilized wood, and instead just cf scales, it would likely be 3/4 of the weight it is now
Nate's thinking ti integral lock, and I think we can do it up slim enough but still hand filling by machining out the slabs on the inside
probably about .10-.12" blade thickness

You guys thinking high flat like the EDC or a super sexy slicy full? :D

if it's up to me, the folder will be a precision cutting tool. Pretty sure Nate's got the same thing in mind

Looking forward to seeing some design sometime next year. Framelock rather than liner would be a step up,yeah. And I've seen a Bingalor with cf scales, can't remember where, maybe it was one you kept for yourself. But cf, coupled with the zirc - great style as well. But whatever you guys come up with, "Build it, and they will come".

I'd really love to see a 6.5-8" chef's knife or santoku with Nate's genius behind it.

In the meantime check out Matthew Gregory Knives. I am sure Nathan will be OK with me giving him a plug here. I have nothing but good to say about my experience with his knives made for the Kitchen.

Edit: Please pardon me if you see what you like only to find out his stuff is harder to get than Nathan's and find yourself with a strange urge to strangle me.

Would love to see a folder or another run on the field knives. I'd probably try to pick up anything I didn't already have though :D.

Still can't wait to see the new release survival blade, I know it's getting new name. Still can't wait to see it and a HD FK version :-) the folder does sound sweet though.

After playing around with the Light Chopper for a few days now, i'd really like to get my hands on a Heavy Chopper. Perhaps a re run?
