What knife would you like to see next from CPK?

Not a “knife” as per the thread but I wpuld love to see some different liners offered with the OD and antique micartas!
Put OD liners on the antiques and natural liners with the OD scales; keep everything earth toned with those two!

Always helpful, you are.....

I was hoping for some of that lineage in whatever might happen with the LC evolution.

I have really been trying to avoid that, as I fear I would go broke with all the different models I "need". Seriously, how would that conversation end up with anything other than a Super Assasin on order? Then a North Sword. Then a Sasquatch. Then a......

It would be 2020 before I could buy groceries again.

As much as the Super Assassin makes me drool, I can't wait to see what our favorite evil genius comes up with, for the KODSE2HSC (Knife-Or-Death-Special-Edition-2-Handed-Super-Chopper) :D

Season 2 is now History (pun intended) as far as casting, participation and filming goes; so shirley, you had meant to say S3?

If you were referring to my post, it was my lighthearted over-the-top attempt at adding to CPK's library of acronyms (eg. HDFK/NASK, MCHD etc.) :p

Which is why I had the full description Knife Or Death Special Edition, 2-Handed Super Chopper which is what the KODSE-2HSC part breaks down to :D

Yep, an EDC with a 4" blade, handle like the HDFK with the recessed lanyard. O wait, is that what the Field Knife 2.0 is going to be? I'm standing in line right now.

I know Vanax is expensive but I would love to see a rust free knife from CPK. The few reviews I’ve read on this Steel seem promising.

While value, i.e, bang for the buck is one of the dominant maxims which Nathan implements in his knife making operation, I don't think that angst about cost of a particular steel plays the most crucial rule in his decision making. In other words, steel cost plays a big role as it should, but I don't think that Nathan will be deterred by that factor alone.

He has done patterns in Elmax in the past and if he has the time to dial in the HT to where it meets his standards and expectations (toughness, hardness & edge retention when demolition BOLTS!!!) I would not dismiss Vanax as a no-go steel just because of it being deemed as cost prohibitive. For now though AEB-L is what will be on the roster as far as stainless goes starting with the UF and perhaps maybe something else in 2019, say DEK 1?

I don't care what steel costs, the cost of the steel amounts to little more than a rounding error. I'm going to use the best material available for an application, cost doesn't figure into it.

I also don't care much about what steels are fashionable at the moment.

People might think I need my head examined for choosing AEBL because it does not have some of the pedigree of other particle super steels, but I have selected it because of its combination of superior edge stability and retention, good toughness, and decent stain resistance.

I like seeing the AEB-L come into some of the offerings ... I now have a few knives in AEB-L and it has impressed me so far.

And can appreciate everything Nathan said ... I think myself included ... most of us would trust Nathan's choices of materials completely as everything CPK puts out is exceptional.

This, right here, is precisely what made me a huge fan of CPK.

The 'Performance', in the name Carothers Performance Knives, isn't just there to sound cool. It's there because that's driving philosophy of CPK. It's all about performance.

Plenty of makers/manufacturers do one of 2 things:
- offer their knives in the latest 'fad' super steel, but using the same, bog standard heat treat, and with designs oriented mostly towards aesthetics and how the knife looks. There's no advantage to a super steel, that can be optimally heat treated to 62Hrc, with a thin edge, if the maker is simply heat treating it to 58Hrc, with a standard thick blade, that's thick behind the edge.

- use the same old steel they're familiar with, because they're familiar with it, and "eet weel cut"

To take advantage of these super steels, requires refinement in not just the heat treat, but also the edge geometry, with all these elements, targeted towards the intended usage (i.e. a kitchen knife for slicing, vs. a big knife for chopping, vs a utility knife etc.).

As someone who actually likes using my knives, I love that you actually put the effort into testing these things, and optimizing for them.

Now that I can stop harping on the two-hander, can we get back to kitchen stuff;).

I loved the potato knife, and if I sliced potatoes more I would have kept it. My problem is that I mainly cube potatoes, and when splitting and cubing it tended to wedge more than I liked :(. I even still miss my potato knife, I hope the person I sold it to is using it often.

I'd love to see something about the same size with a full height version of the parabolic chisel "grind", I think it would be the perfect kitchen knife for me.

One reason I liked the name "Carothers Performance Knives" is because I used to be a quality auditor and "CPK" means something relevant in that context. Another name "Carothers Optimized Cutlery and Knives" spelled something different I didn't like as much.

I hate to say it, but I'd still declare my love for "Carothers Optimized Cutlery and Knives".
