What knife would you suggest for a girl?

Ada-

As my newly found friend Titan stated the Spyderco Calypso would preform well as a daily carry knife . My wife carries a knife I made for her it is a small fixed blade about 6in OAL it rides in her purse she never leaves without it . Go look for your self pick what you like and look out because it is addictive.

Hi Ada,

I own quite a few knives, both Benchmades (BM) and Spydercos. Most are the smaller versions of larger knives. This is primarily because I have very small hands and the most important aspect of choosing a knife, for me, is fit. Can I open the knife and close it with one hand? Can I hold it comfortably, without finger grooves pushing into my hands?

I guess my suggestion would be that if you can hold a few knives do so, so that you can get a feel for what you like and don't like in folders. I hold my boyfriend's knives, and immediately tell him that if they were about 2 inches smaller, they would be perfect.

If you can't do that, I can offer a few suggestions from my collection: The Benchmade Leopard Cub. It is small and has beautiful lines, although the point may break off under heavy use. It's also a liner lock. The Spyderco Jess Horn. Comes in two sizes to fit your needs, ( the smaller one only available through A.G. Russell) and if you look at the A.G. Russell web site, you can find them in white and maroon micarta. It's tip up carry, and the larger one should be pretty solid. The Spyderco Calypso Jr. I have the micarta one and its is wonderful, although it now comes in the "lite" weight form as well as the steel. You may be able to find the micarta if you look though. It's a great little knife that can be held by even those with larger hands and it is a solid blade that should stand up to use.

Good luck with your search. If you want any more girly ideas, drop a line.

Yours,
-Beth-

Spyderco DragonFly is the winner for a first knife. Not too big, not too small, and a HELL of a lot cheaper than $150.00 !

IMHO, The Spyderco Calypso Jr. with carbon fiber(I heard there was a small prod. run of them with that material.) or with micarta handles and a flat grind would make an excellant choice.
Followed shortly after by the MOD Lady Hawk, MA or auto, depending on ****ing laws(I put in the assterics myself.

David,

I'm 32, going 33 now in a few months' time.

So there's no conflict between what I posted, and what I wrote on email.. lol...

I'll have to pass with the led bulb first, since the smallest maglite we have here is a 5-D cell version.

Titan - That's going to be impossible.

I have a very small collection, and some which I don't think she'll have any interest on.

I'd rather if she chooses on her own, eh?

Hehehe... I did notice that there's a lot of replies here. Seems like we forumites really want to get someone hooked to the same stuff we all are into, right?

Hi Everyone!

Thanks for all of your suggestions. Now I'm more confused than ever!

Kidding aside, a lot of you raised good points which I hadn't considered before. I haven't decided yet what knife to get, but I'll keep you guys posted. Thanks again!

Florals are okay, but I'm not so crazy about pink. Black was, is and will always be my favorite color. Thanks for your comments. They are much appreciated.

Does anyone out here have a Black Delica with the black blade to sell Ada? Very nice easy carry with the thumb hole for easier deployment (Snick, I have used for years...much faster for those us us with beat up old hands...my hands are about size ten and a half, but the first two knuckles would pass for a thirteen...)

Ada, in your situation I would actually go find several folders you like, the on-line prices will aford you the opportunity to do this and rotate your carry between them. This is how I found out I like the Spyderco Endura better than any other folder I own or have handled. Low price, nasty blade, maybe nopt as tough as the Buck 110 or the monster SOG or sebenza type folders, but then again the point is I can carry it anywhere in any clothes with no hassle whatsoever.

I would recommend you giving a hard look to Al Mar products, such as the Falcon and Eagle as well. Pricey, possibly, but very first rate workmanship. Also take a look at MOD Tempest. If you want pretty but not pink, Benchmade Model 850 with the anodized Titanium bolster and the White Micarta scales is absolutely gorgeous. I bought one for Sweetie, a definitely non-knife person and she loves it. Carries it with her everywhere.

I advocate a Benchmade mini stryker in M2 non serrated . or the The BM Sentinel (with aluminum handle) non serrated in M2

Ada,

Yeah, I can't say I have a favorite color, but everything I own is either olive drab or black. The funny thing is this has absolutely nothing to do with tactical/military matters at all. I just like the spartan look.

I like highly ornate and beautiful things too, but they're for a place you're gonna stay a while, or things that you'll have for a long time. There is absolutely no semblance of stability or permanence in my life, so it's kinda out of place.

Besides, basic black and olive drab don't show dirt. Less maintainence. Out of sight, out of mind.

Oh ADA! Black! I think I like ya already!

With generalities, get something long pointy hard and sharp. Fixed blade preferably. Go check out knifeforums.com and hit the MAD DOG knives forum. The church is into getting people tacticaly correct as possible and should be able to fix you up with a killing knife/utility knife that you find interesting I do belive.

Ada,

I too, have a hard time determining what would be the best knife for a woman.
Have tried for years to get one for my wife and she ends up taking my brother's mini AFCK. Now she wants a Military(she is just exercising the females perogative to change her mind in mid-stride
wink.gif
lol
All kidding aside, I think others have said it and much better than I could, that the best thing to do is determine what you need and will use it for, as well as the size and strength of your hands and go from there...
Never been one for the artsy-fartsy stuff myself('cept the 'Benza)
Either way I am sure with Danny's help(Hey Danny) you will do fine.
Good luck and welcome to the forums.

Ada,

I just passed along my old "Urban Skinner" by Cold Steel to my gf. She wanted something solely for protection, not utility and I let her look through my box of folders, fixed blades...

She picked the Urban Skinner push dagger because it was small, deceptive, comfortable in the hand and difficult to dislodge.

My fiance goes nuts for the little butterfly on Benchmades. My bm3500sbt has now been claimed by her. The black blade with the gold butterfly was what attracted her to it..

I would try to get more than one knife for a girl, that way I'd feel less guilty about the trade.

Emerson commander.
everything else is a Exacto knife.
Ok MT socoms are good too. if you want to say i love you go for teh commander.

It's new and originally designed with the needs of women in mind, although many hunters really like it.

Have a look at the Fällkniven WM. Fixed blade with really nice grip. Well within your price range but with the same quality as the other Fällkniven line.

Check out at Chai Cutlery.
