What knives are on your radar for 2009?

Well I have one from Bryan Breeden en route and one from Koyote on order.

I think since handling Cmdr's Bk-9 that this will be an unavoidable purchase for me this year. I will undoubtably be purchasing two izula's, just waiting for the tactical pink flavor to come out. I'd like to get a full tank, scandi style bushcrafter. Something in the vein of a koster bushcrafter, Charlie Ridge's new one or an Enzo. At the moment, leaning towards the Charlie Ridge (mainly influenced by the post up this week). I'm entrigued by the JK Ewok and am kind of waiting to see what his bushcrafter feels like in the passaround.

Hmm other knives I want to get....Mora2000....

I need to buy a crapload of sheaths. I'm actually starting to fear contacting Eric because I now how somewhere about 5 or 6 sheaths on want him to make for me.

Sent a design to Bryan Breeden for a "light camp knife" a week or so ago and I'd like to get a Spyderco Military or a Para-Military as well, maybe the Urban slipjoint that they're putting out sometime as well.

This but polished and with a brass bolster. Should be done by the end of the month(been waiting 4 months so far)

thats about the best looking knife i have ever seen. bet that one set you back a bit though.

This is the year of the folder for me. I've ordered a Griptilian 551 and a mini-Grip 556. I also traded for a Benchmade 720 with the aluminum scales. All plain edge.

I've got a lifetime's worth of knives and need these three like a hole in the head but you know how it is...

Dan Koster Bushmaster, Dan Koster W&SS Neck Knife, and I'm going to try to pick up a Nessmuk from him as well. His work is beyond impressive.

I'd love a Sebenza, and will get one someday, but it may be 2010, not 2009.

Probably won't be buying much this year...but I have to admit that I have been CONSIDERING buying a fusion Battle Mistress. Just, you know, to have what is currently sort of the ultimate super-chopper knife.

But considering I generally prefer the mora-type stuff that would be a pretty radical departure for me.

There is, though, this voice in my head that says "Skammer had a point." I remember he used to say that most of his uses were sort of machete-like - he'd be sweeping though 1" pole-type wood to make shelter frames, and so on. I can see that as machetes really do this better than axes (even though I love axes and don't feel anything for machetes.)

But if you wanted a machete that could do a bit of splitting as well...I don't know. Maybe a FBM would be a good tool for that!

So I feel strange for saying it but maybe reading Skammer's posts actually influenced my approach to cutting tools!

RC-6 and Izula mostly. That and whatever other fun goodies peak my interest!

Hmm, looking at RAT Izula, Breeden Pathfinder, and a couple sheaths by the kydex master Jeff H. Maybe a tomahawk from Coldsteel just to bang around.

I keep thinking that I'm going to thin my stash of blades. I've given a few away here even.

And every month I tell my wife that I'm not going to order any more knives right now--I swear I mean it when I say it--but somehow, another order gets made in my name.

I keep seeing knives made by GL Drew in the For Sale area and it seems like I might need one of those....

Only a couple. I wan't one for EDC, 2 1/2" x 1/8" x 1 1/8" fully convexed with convexed edge, spear point, 4" hand filling handle. The other is sturdy folder. Probably one of those tactical folders like the Kabar Mule, but who knows. Things change.

RC-5 Sere, leather sheathes for my RC4 & RC3, and maybe something from Bark River. The works of Stomper and charlieridge have also piqued my interest as of late.

I recently dumped a whole bunch of blades that just didn't suit me, including some real crap I had accumulated years ago, so I'm keen to repopulate with some quality cutlery.

Mine will probably be Mora's, a SAK or two and maybe a bushman or two.

I already have (or have ordered) all the high end knives I need.

Maybe it will sink in.

If I ever get my bloody paycheck from december I have my eyes on the following: (1 first choice 2 second etc)

1: J-Siah's "Snowflake" large chopper
2: Kabar/Becker BK2
3: any one of the Rat series
4: One of those large rustic Nessmuks (Koster?)
some more customs, from GL Drew, MykulMorris etc.

Not many. I'm really going to try and dedicate 2009 to using what I own, making sheaths for a lot of them, evaluating current knives and paring some of the excess, and enjoying more time outdoors rather than online.

That said, I am looking at some fixed blades for kayaking, maybe the Benchmade H20. I also would like to see the SAR4 from Busse come out.

The most machete-like Busse to date has been the latest iteration of the Busse Battle Mistress--the NM FBM CG (Nuclear Meltdown Fusion Battle Mistress Combat Grade... say that three times fast). Here are some pics for you.

NM FBM CG is the next to last (second from the right).
