What knives do Special Forces use?

My nephew is a carrier army soldier and even though he owns a Randall he carries his K-bar. Most soldiers don't care about having the coolest knife. Most of thier other gear ismuch more important than the knife. They don't care how long it holds a razor edge, and they don't care what others think off their knives. To them, the knife is a tool just like the compass or other gear.

Certainly that is what Mission Knives tells us!
There is of course that caveat

Honestly, I'm always a little dubious of knife companies' claims that "Special Forces" uses their knives.
Let me put it another way; do you have any reason to doubt that particular statement from that particular company (that SEAL units might use MISSION knives)?

NB Im asking out of sheer neutral curiosity BTW - not trying to start an argument. You might even have some info about this, that Im not privy to.

My buddy carries a Manix 2 because he thought it looked cool. He overpaid for it at a brick and mortar store then promptly sliced his finger open and had me glue it closed. That pretty much spelled the end of my lust over knives 'for operators'. I still like some that are advertised likethat, but not bbecause of the advertising.

The statement from Mission Knives that SEALs use Mission Knives? My doubt on that one does not stem from anything Mission-specific. (That's not to say Mission doesn't do some wacky stuff, but that's entirely off topic.)

My doubt comes from knowing that company X supplying or giving knives to Special Forces is not the same thing as Special Forces using knives from company X.

And from having a healthy doubt about the content of advertising. :)

I have a co-worker who's a former SEAL, and the only name brands he can remember using are Gerber, and that's for their multi-tools, and Benchmade's Griptillian. No Mission, Strider, Emerson. Does that mean these companies are fabricating usage? No, but not every SF soldier is carrying or even knows about all these different names, and most probably wouldn't care, as not everyone is a "gearhead."

Multi tools are probably the most carried, some SF units have latitude on what they can carry, but might have to buy it themselves. I do know of one who carried an HI khukuri, and successfully defended himself in battle with it. With tremendous results. :D The ghurkas are highly feared around the world for very good reasons.

as per a Seal BUDS instructor, they do get SOG seal pups and/or Cold Steel SRKs while in training. My cousin just got deployed for a 3rd round at the sandbox, even tho he is not a high speed low drag secret squirrel deanimator I will ask him about what do they have over there.

Man I needed a laugh!!!
Like to see the sheath for this one!! :D

This has turned out to be pretty informative....tho it started off with a bit of criticism.

Yeah I can see why they'd carry a Multi-Tool esp a Leatherman MUT

Not a huge fan of some of their strange tanto shaped knives myself, but a fan of some of their other offerings.

Yes, skepticism in regards to maketing from knife companies in general is a good thing.
We cant disagree on that.

One of my training Sgts told me that he carried an M16, .45 and 3 frags everywhere (including the latrine) during 4 tours in Vietnam. Head said that if he needed a knife, he just broke a whisky bottle.

And he had a lot of whiskey bottles in the field? Sounds more like a basecamp REMF to me.

The traditional Kabar, OKC ASEK, and Gerber 06 FAST.

Now if you want to include items that have an NSN, there are quite a few if them. Camillus, Ontario, Masters of Defense, Benchmade, Buck, Gerber, Kabar, Surefire, Spyderco, Strider, SOG, Cold Steel, and Blackhawk have all been awarded NSN's.

Special Forces on the other hand use whatever the hell they want. Most of them are probably using free issued blades like the ones initially listed though. Anyone claiming ENTIRE units use their knife that hasn't been issued an NSN is either exaggerating, they gave them to them as a gift but they never ordered any, or they bought them as COTS and didn't like them enough to order more.

Says who??? I mainly saw benchmade autos, gerber 06 autos and emerson cqc-7s

Benchmade Adamas 275 folder should be a awesome knife for field use for any branch or environment!
All our Guys should be issued them as a backup or even primary....IMHO
