What knives do you absolutely not like or not understand the hype? I'll go first.

I really like the look of the Smock too. The shop I frequent finally got a shipment of them in a while ago and they felt terrible in my hand. I was a bit disappointed but such is life. That’s why I try before I buy.
Yeah that's pretty much what has stopped me. Maybe one of these days I'll find a used one or something like that.

The only place around me with Spyderco is sportsmans warehouse and they only have a few of the most popular ones at full retail.

I personally do not get the appeal of these CNC'd knives that are clearly made to be as cheap as possible with ultra agressive scales that would would not be comfortable for more than 10 seconds of cutting. They are everywhere. I get that looks sell knives, but your blade shouldn't destroy your hand in seconds.

Reminds me that most people never actually use their knives.

For me personally, any knife that's more or less unobtanium. A few of the makers already mentioned seem to fall in that category pretty often.

Without even getting into the item's price tag itself, if something requires me to watch for a "drop", enter a lottery, or sign up for a wait list to even attempt to purchase, I'll pass.

I'm sure I'm missing out on some great knives, but there are plenty of options that meet my needs, desires, and budget that are readily available from a variety of sources. Without jumping through any hoops.

My biggest pet peeve when it comes to GEC is this. I'm not looking to purchase a knife as if it were a rare baseball or Pokemon card. I'm not going to play the scarcity game for a knife using 17th century technology. I'm not buying a knife to take a picture of it next to its shipping tube it will live in, a cigar I won't smoke, and a bourbon I won't drink.

As for Spyderco...they are nearly soulless and pretty damn ugly. Form should follow function, but at the going rate they are asking, I am fine expecting a bit more aesthetics. HOWEVER...damn are they sharp and well made. I can't think of a knife that has kicked more knives out of my pocket than the Para 3 in Cruwear. Like, if I am honest, I really can't think of a better EDC knife for me for 99% of the cutting tasks I can expect to have to handle. I sorta hate how much I love it, because it does NOT sing to me.

Well you're only about 2.5 centuries off regarding the technology, but otherwise on point! 🤣 I used to love GEC 10 -15 years ago before they became gold bricks.

CRK - Umnumzaan, Sebenza, Inkosi... neither has particularly good ergos (both, Spyderco and Cold steel have better ergos and locks) or are something so special to justify that inflated price.

Rockstead - super inflated price and super brittle steel, not impressive at all.

Cleaver styled small fixed blades and folding cleavers.

Large scandi grind knives with no guard. Why? Just why?

Dang, so you’re telling me I’ve been using these things wrong in the kitchen, all these years? When I should have been out stabbing things instead? 🤯 lol 😆

If you’re not pinch gripping them, then yes. 😝 Jokes.

I’m talking about guards that drop below the blade edge, not recessed handles that have the blade act as a guard. :) I dig those!

Spyderco makes a good knife, and makes it consistently. The blade spine of most models makes it tough for me to change my grip position when I want to.

Likewise, the very fine tips. Scary for me, because I'm not the most refined and precise knife user in the forum, and I am certain that I would snap a Spyderco blade tip clean off.

Chris Reeve knives. It took me a while to understand that there is more to them than a titanium framelock. The Insingo looks like something I'd like, I've just lost my interest in framelocks at any price point.

I don't get all the hype on what I call cookie cutter knives! You know, the dozens of high end, expensive as hell knives that all kind of look the same! I mean no disrespect, but I have seen SOTC posts where I can only identify a few knives because they all look the damn same! Plus, they are all plain old frame locks! I don't hate them, I just don't understand why people give thousands of dollars for these cookie cutter, flavor of the day, fad knives? Personally, I prefer to spend money on interesting, innovative knife designs as well as classic performers!
