What knives do you actually use day to day?

I was alternating between a PM2 and an American Lawman, until a few weeks ago. Then I began carrying a Manix 2, switching between a lightweight and a g10. Great all around knife. In the last couple of weeks, I ve started dropping a small Hold Out 3 into my pocket in addition to the Manix 2 and using that for most of my work tasks. It s the first time Ive tried using a 3" blade for work. The little Hold Out is doing a great job. Maybe I m on the way to using a box cutter!?! I ll still carry a larger folder in addition to a smaller work blade in case a bigger cutting job occurs.

I seem to keep going back to the same few knives.

1. Benchmade Griptilian
2. Kershaw Zing
3. SAK

I did recently have an Inkosi Insingo on loan for a month or so. I can see why people stop using all their other knives when they buy CRK.

I guess the only new thing is that I have added a few Victorinox Spartan folders to my gear so that I always have folder of some sort nearby. One in the pack, another in the car, etc. They rarely get used, if ever, but, are there if needed.

I have a large Inkosi or large 21 with me everyday. Use them everyday for anything and everything
 
It has been two years since this thread started.... What has changed for me? Well, back when I started this thread I mentioned that I was trying out a Case Peanut and kept it in my watch pocket when I wear jeans. Still love the Vic sidelocking Adventurer which I carried for 15+ years. Things have changed..... I liked the Peanut but I liked a slightly larger SAK (Small Tinker) better carried the same way. So, the 111mm Adventurer had been sidelined for 8+ months now. Peanuts live on the shelf unused. And, I stopped carrying a modern knife. I've replaced the modern knife with a small fixed blade on my belt (mostly a Condor Compact Kephart). But I switch off and on with the fixed blade as I have a number sized about right. I like the little Condor as I am not afraid to hurt it and it sharpens up well enough. It carries easy.

I keep my Benchmade Mini Presidio II in my pickup in the event I have a larger cutting task or I just feel like clipping a modern to my pocket for a change.

I still have no desire to get into a big knife rotation. I just see little point for myself. How about you guys? Changes?

Two years ago I was still carrying and using CRKs. I’m minus an umnumzaan and a few others. I’m down to only 21s and inkosi’s. I work with my hands so they get used daily.

The only thing that has changed is that I’ve sold off the majority of my other brand knives that I stopped carrying. I’ve thinned the herd substantially and have really been considering letting a lot of CRKs go and get down to a smaller work rotation. Still up for debate
 
Since the 18th of July 2018, my real EDC pocket knife has been the Victorinox executive I was gifted. Its a small SAK that I had never hand, and I absolutely totally love this knife. Its like the little Case peanut I used to and still love, but with more capability with both flat and Phillips head screws, file, scissors and two knife blades, plus one weird serrated blade called an orange peeler but works well in plastic blister packages and small zip ties, as well as peeling an orange.

Once in a while it gets augmented with a second knife if I think the days activities need it, like my Leatherman squirt for small piers and wire cutters, and heftier screw drivers. If I go fishing or woods walking I have my old Buck woodman on my hip. But for most of life in modern suburbia the SAK executive is all I need. I'd say 98% of the time its all I have in the pocket knife wise.

I need to do that, but I know I won't. The unused or unloved knives will just sit and sit until I croak. At that point, more than likely they will get picked over but most will head to a flea market or the landfill.

Go ahead and sell off. Its a very liberating experience. I sold off/gave away about 9/10th off my knife accumulation and it felt like a weight was gone. Life was just better with a knife collection I could hold in one had. I did the same with my guns and it was like a ball and chain had been removed.
 
I usually carry a couple of knives.
Days off: Inkosi or PM2 plus GEC #71
Work Days: Inkosi or PM2 plus SAK and Zancudo D2
Running: Bugout or Endura 4
Swimming: Endura 4

Once I finally started selling the unused ones it was easy. Now selling off my CRKs that are still in my work rotation is tough. I’ve sold several. I really would like to get down to just a small rotation, or so I think

If you're still actually using it, then keep it. The fact that you are using it means you still are attached to it and value it. I started my big downsize by selling off/giving away the ones I didn't use anymore. Then after a while graduated to the ones that I only used once in a while.

The really weird thing I found out was, it was soooo liberating to shrink my possessions, that once I did it, I vocldn't wait to do more. Then I finally put aside the ones that I honestly told myself I absolutely positively couldn't do without. Then I just got rid of the rest. I kept couple SAK's and a few other pocket knives and that was that. It felt GREAT!

I have been slowly selling off guns in my collection. (Yes, collection vs accumulation) I stopped when this virus thing came up or essentially early 2020. Still a fair amount of value but I have not been watching what things are selling for. But I suppose I would find out rather quickly once I list things on the open market.

Knives..... I just never really attached much value to them. I should and if you consider all of them, there is a fair amount of value. I guess the first ones to go will be a couple Randalls that I have never used (or sharpened). I have no intention at this point of using them since I have long since gotten knives I use. The Randalls are some of my oldest blades relative to the hobby.

My ultimate goal is to scale back to six knives. Three that I use and three as a back up. Even though it is a goal I have found it very difficult to do. Right now I am trying to scale back to twelve. That is even hard.

I really would like to try having only three. Right now a Vic Cadet, small Insingo 21, and an CPK EDC2 are what come to mind. A guy can dream, can’t he?

Ask me next week and the list will be different.

I plan to have most of mine gone before I die. My wife has said that she will keep the one I bought on our honeymoon. One will be buried with me. Some will go to my daughter and son-in-law. Any that are left will be donated to a local scout troop.

If I ever meet my goal of only having six knives there will not be any for my wife to donate.
 
Not scaling back. Still buying whatever strikes my fancy, but my EDC is a 25+ year old Tinker. My Model 1 Randall got prior to 'Nam is going under with me.

In the Summer I wear cheap Wrangler ripstop cargo shorts, and lightweight knives don't flop around as much when clipped to the pocket.
