What knives do you/have you given as gifts?

I've spent some time on the road visiting with different family. Of course, I ended up giving away a couple of knives.

First was the Civivi Riffle. It was a good knife. I was using it to cut some twine. A relative mentioned that his knife had fallen out of his pocket on an extended ride. He liked my Riffle so I let him have it. Unlike me, he is a one-knife kind of guy. So he'll be giving it the use it deserves.

I also ended up parting with my Sencut Waxahachie. I had done a scale swap to get it the way I wanted. I also got a nice lanyard from Gary W. Graley Gary W. Graley , which sadly isn't included in the picture below. I'd been carrying it on my belt that morning. A relative who hunts regularly had been using an Old Timer for years and wasn't happy with the edge retention. Well, I made his day. :)

About a month ago I gave my son-in-law a SAK Evogrip 18. I didn’t know if he had a knife or not, but he has a little garden and does a lot of outdoors stuff, so I figured he could use it. Turns out he didn’t have one but has always wanted one. He loves it and carries it everywhere. Today I gave him a garden Hori knife (no, I’d never heard of it, either), and he was ecstatic. I think I might be slowly turning him into one of us. I recently picked up an Ochs Worx Solarstorm that’s got his name on it when I kick the bucket - or I make it to the no-knife old farts home first.
You know what he needs?

A Smatchet!

I gave one friend a ZT300 when he graduated FLETC and another a an EDC sized custom fixed blade. I've given my wife a custom fixes blade for hiking and just recently a special edition SAK. Mostly she buys her own knives though.

Gave my wife this dagger shortly after we married, she says she wants to be buried with it like the Lady in the Lake, I think I’m starting to lure her the the knife side

A colleague had a chewed up finger and explained he used a serrated knife when he shouldn’t have. I asked why he used a serrated blade and not his pocket knife. His response sent a chill down my spine. “I don’t have a pocket knife.” Note: he’s a grown man. Or at least I thought he was.

For a clean, professional, inexpensive EDC, I bought him an Elementum. I oiled and adjusted it, touched off the blade and changed his life. His text gushing over it was a sign. I fully expect him to dive head long into ZT and Emerson BF sales any day now.

My cousin lives alone in Chicago and I've given him quite a few. Kershaw leek about ten years ago. The last several years I've given him one for his birthday and maybe Christmas. Kershaw Launch 8, a Hogue Deka wharncliffe, and an engraved Victorinox super tinker.

My dad I've given a few. An engraved Case golf knife for my wedding in 2015, a Lionsteel opera cocobolo (forgot about it until recently) and his favorite, last year for Christmas, a Kershaw Launch 8. They are all mine now unfortunately.

Gave a friend's kid an Esee zancudo for high school graduation.

Gave my cousin-in-law a Kershaw Emerson which I nearly lost part of my right middle finger to.

Other cousins a waved Endura and a Blur I bieve.

Lots of SAKs.
My cousin-in-law loves the Kershaw Emerson, carries it everyday. Has used it hunting plus millions of other things. Iowa farm boy, one of 11 kids. I really ought to get him something nicer.

I gave my groomsmen little two blade Buck traditionals. Maybe I should have asked for them back when I got divorced!

My dad's Kershaw Launch 8 I just gave to my brother-in-law. Lucky guy, he also inherited my dad's 2017 F-150.

Now I am playing with giving a IndIan (Windlass steelcraft) Gentleman’s knife in carbon steel to the same friend. He is a Civil War reenactor, in the role of a chaplain, so the materials would be period correct. Of course, every gift I give I get one for myself to justify getting a new knife to play with too.AF13FE07-D322-4E74-9E0C-4C39C393E12F.jpeg

Giveaways in the last year or so:

2 - Kizer Begleiter
3 - Fallkniven F1
1- Beretta Loveless (drop point - Zytel)
Several Tramontina and Incolma machetes, a few SAKs & Victorinox poultry/vent knives, a Cold Steel Finn Hawk, a few Moras, a few Ontario RATs & Camp Plus folders, some Friedrich Dick kitchen/butcher knives, a couple Buck folders and some Wallymart/Bud K pocket/bait knives, a Fiskars billhook and several Schrade folders with bone scales (like a Buck 110).

Over the years I have given away a couple dozen hand-forged Thai choppers, a couple Gerber multi-tools and a half-dozen SAK Tinkers.

Disclaimer: I'm not generous - just cheap. I buy in bulk when I spot a deal, like the genuine Fallkniven F1s (black blade, leather sheath - 5 for $100. delivered). Most of my Latin American machetes were $3 - $8. 🙄

You found 5 F1’s for a $100!!!! Holy cow that’s a deal. I can never come across those kind of deals

I was just gifted a German made Boker lock back in stag from a close family friend. He isn’t a knife nut like us but appreciates fine cutlery. He had kept it in the original box in a safe and handed it to me last week to take home. I was dumb founded really. Gonna be my main hunting knife this year. 0653FE24-5590-4D51-8C2A-77ABB9E101B0.jpeg

I have a buddy going in a special hunt out west this fall and been thinking about getting him something as he is a huge gun guy but not a crazy knife addict so he doesn’t have a good knife. He just had his first baby too so I was thinking every man should have a Buck 110 so could be his man card knife :) lol

Just a weird thing, looking on Walmart's site one day. Supposedly sold and shipped by Walmart, so I took a chance. They had about 7, but I left a couple for other folks. One box was so old, it had a fax number instead of a web link, LOL.

I was very wary of clones and examined them carefully. Emailed Fallkniven and they weren't worried. The boxes with the holograms checked out OK and the small details on the knives were perfect. I sold one for $60. (about 1/2 price), so I had four $10 knives left. Gave 3 away to friends/family.

As for crappy knives, I have a small bucket full of the BUDK "Wahoo Killer" 4" Mora-like knives. Great for beating, digging weeds, scraping gaskets and the like. 3 for $5 delivered, and the sheaths fit some other knives.
