What knives do you hope 2018 will bring?

I'm seriously hoping that in 2018 someone will bring a pocket lightsaber to the market.

I mean, come on!!! We have smartphones that can navigate us across the globe, but we lack the technology to make a lightsaber???

Lame!!!
The Force is NOT with us and our gung fu is weak !

I hope knife makers look at knifenews.com knife gripes by @NickShabazz

So many knives could have been far better if they just watch that.

So for 2018... Knife makers please watch knife gripes.

I'd also like to see less Tactical and more slicers.

Finally I'd like to see crkt partner with we knives or something of quality with mid range materials. Possibly real steel. And provide the same designs of the budget brand but in high quality affordable line.

Give me a moment to put up my Geek Flag.

There we go. Now. It wouldn't be too hard to focus a couple laser beams (eight would do it), at a single point about one meter above the emitter. They would have to be hellaciously powerful though, to do the things a lightsaber can do. There is at least one time where a character jams one into a series of armored doors, and the way the heat transfers implies that the beam maintains coherency through all that plating.

The problem is the power output. We have the technology to put out a single beam with that kind of power, but it's housed in a very large building, and it takes a while to charge up.

Bottom line is that I think light sabers are as cool as everybody else does, but I also think that simple physics makes them impossible.

I'm just gonna fold my Geek Flag up and leave, now. Thanks for listening.

-More mainstream production models in 20cv and CTS-XHP. Including Spyderco Native 5 and PM2.
-More mainstream production field and chopper knives becoming available in 3v. Examples: ESEE 6 and ESEE Junglas 2 available in 3v.
-New Bradford Guardian knife designs with full handles (versus the current integrated-with-choil handle design). The forthcoming 3.5 is a great first step.
-More steel choices in the Spyderco Military and PM2 lefty models.

And a hearty +1 to all these:
...a RAT 2 in D2. That is IF Ontario ever releases it.....
Sure would be great if more new models were made lefty friendly!
I’d really like to see more high-end backlock designs on the market.
I'd also like to see less Tactical and more slicers.

What I'm wishing for in 2018 :
- A new Ti Military with a machined handle (to replace the Fluted Ti).
- For Spyderco to make more stone washed blades...

- Shaman sprint. I'd like a high end stainless steel such as... 204P , S90V... With CF... or Titanium.

Ide like spyderco to stonewash all of thier stuff and I would love a Ti Military with the wilson combat starbenza pattern cut it in.

Yes to a shaman sprint.

Even if we could theoretically pack the amount of power required for a real lightsaber into a handle like the size in the movies, there would be no way to limit the output of photons to a finite length (let's say we want a lightsaber with a 4' "blade").

That defies physics and cannot be done.

Yeah, I'm a bit of a geek myself:D

- Shaman sprint. I'd like a high end stainless steel such as M390 , 204P , S90V , Elmax. With CF (or marbled CF) or Titanium.
Shaman in s90v and carbonfiber is already in the plan for the first sprint per Sal. They have a thread over there spyderco is looking at for suggestions. I really hope they make one in carbonfiber and m4... But also various other steel types. LC200N, cruware, m390/204p/20cv, or even elmax. Vanadis 4e at 64hrc would be tits too!

My wishes for 2018:

New nice, no nonsense Benchmades
A radical new design from CRK
A new line of dressed up Emersons (po boy style cheaper than customs)
The return of classic line Striders at a classic price
A new batch of burnt orange HAP40 Spydercos!

I said it in another thread but here again: a spyderco military with a DLC M4 blade and jade scales, and a spyderco pm2 in the same configeration. Make the total price of the two around $300-320.

JEOPARDY.....
Benchmade Mini AFCK and other no nonsense models.
Spyderco Progrip.
Buck lightweight 110.
.......Things I'd like to see in 2018.

I would like to see more advanced traditional style knives. (Lionsteel Roundhead, JE Made Slipjoint).
I know some purist would object to this, but if knife makers in 1922 had these materials and technologies available do you believe they would not have utilized them. So why not today?

Ha! Wouldn't that be awesome..even if it didn't cut. Hey, we have hologram technology, right?

To the OP, your dream knife is available now. The Spyderco PM2 with 52100 steel and carbon fiber scales.

Man.....I'd love one.

But I just bought this ZT 0456 that I'm struggling to get an edge on. (I'm getting closer and closer,....patience, man, patience) It's very nice but if I would have searched enough or realized that Spyderco had this one available, it certainly would have been my choice.

Dammit
Dammit
Dammit

(sigh......) OK, I got that out of my system. I'll get there.

I still wish CRKT would up the blade steel. If Spyderco and Benchmade can produce Vg10 and 154cm in sub $100 folders, CRKT should be able to hit that mark. I'd love a re-done M16 or M21 with Vg10 or 154cm and G10 on ss or aluminum frame.

I'd like to find a ZT Mudd and an Emerson A100 w/o having to mortgage my house.

A lefty PM2 Sprint would be awesome. Even better would be a lefty Military sprint. It wouldnt be that difficult to make like 5% of any right handed sprint into a left sprint. Cutting the tang interface the other way is probably the most difficult part. Obviously everything else is mirror imaged, but how hard would it be to flip everything in the CNC programs?? A lefty KnifeWorks S90V/CF/Ti Military would be the ultimate grail for me!
