What lead you to Busse Combat Knives?

When i was but a young knife knut i stumbled upon the strider website and fell in love wiht hard use knives.

I took a hiatus and bought nothing but bali's. My nicest knife was a BM model 42 (its now pretty much my lowest quality knife :D).

When i moved back to Md i went into a cheasapeake knife and tool and ended up buying a chris reeve warrior knife. This rekindled my passion for hard use knives.

Whenever the subject of hard use knives came up on this forum someone invariably brought up busse. And after months of wondering what in the heck a busse was i looked at the forum. I really really liked what i saw.

So i bought an HR. Then another. Soon ill have an FBM, and then a folder!!!

I skipped the gateway drug (rats) and went straight to the hard stuff (busses). I have never looked back.

Between strider and Busse ill be in the poor house yet :D :D :D :D :D

I wish I'd kept up with things a bit better after I got my first knives. But I figured with a Battle Mistress, Steel Heart II, and Badger Attack (not to mention 2 Benchmade AFCKs), I had all the knives I'd ever need. So I ended up missing out on everything between the original Battle Mistress and the War Boar. I'm just glad the Company Store had some Hell Razors and AKs when I rediscovered my interest in nukular-tuff knives.

I don't remember exactly, but someone offered me a bunch of Busse knives for a Randall Made knife I had. I figured I would never actually use the Randall and I might the Busse, so I went for it, I never looked back from there!

I only have a drop in the bucket compared to the "Ducci" clan!!!!:(

The first big knife purchase I made was a set of 8 damascus laminated VG10 core steak knives from AG Russel. They are pretty awesome and cost less than Kershaw Kai steak knives.

In the AG Russel catalog I saw some Randall's and other nice knives. I liked the Randall's so I sent away for their catlog. The wait times, available styles and prices were not exactly what I was looking for so I decided to look around a bit more.

I thought "I would like to get a big steak knife on steroids", something indestructable and comfortable. Then I found Swamp Rat, right after they discontinued the Camp Tramp.

I ordered a pair of Howling Rats and waited, and waited, then the Battle Guard became available and I decided to get one. When the Battle Guard arrived, suddenly I didn't mind missing the Camp Tramp any more.

I tried to get some INFI in the spring, but I was too slow to the trough. I suceeded in the post Blade extravaganza.

It has been several months since I last thought of buying a Randall. I'm sure that I will buy at least a few more Busse's. I would not be surprised if I own 10 or 20 in a few years.

I remember searching for the toughest knife on the planet. Some of the brands highly recommended were Mission, Tom Johanning and Busse. Then I remember the test Mike Turber did with Mission vs Busse basic ( and I think Mad Dog Atak was there ??), the Busse was a clear winner in that test so I quickly got a hold of a few basic and was very impressed by toughness and edge holding ability of Jerry's steel. Mr Johanning's knives were reportedly very tough but his desings didn't appeal to me so Busse it was and it is til today.

I started after reading american survival guide (june 1995) article called "Busse knives for survival". No scanner or i'd post it up like johnthetexican did, nice job john btw, got to love asg. Unfortuately once all the money orders come rolling in in the next week or two, and the USPS does it's work, i'll be without a busse knife for the first time in 10 years. (buying a house or trying to, so scraping up the $$, sad days selling it all, but happy too i guess) Not sure if no regrets when it's all said and done, but we'll see.

:(

:D

2 words brand loyalty and quality cost ratio. I also like their warrenty. And most you ever have to wait is two weeks.

I went to a pig farm, to ask the piggies and hogs what was the best knife to buy.

The swine whispered among themselves, looked at me, and whispered some more. They shook their heads. They were keeping it a big fat hog secret.
I knew they had the answer, I just knew it, but they wouldn't tell me.

I poked and prodded them, but they would not fess up.
The hogs had formed a secret society, they were sworn to keep the secret.

But, as luck would have it, before leaving I did finally find out that the best knife was a Busse. I had uncovered their secret!!

How you ask?

One of the pigs squealed.

Every time I read about Busse, in some thread, someone would mention BEER....
For a Viking, there´s NO way he could leave a party with both knives and BEER!!! ... -that the knives turned out to be
THE BEST "production" FB´s out there was just a bonus!!!!

It was the Ron Hood article that did it for me back in 98.

Ordered my first Busse order Jan 5 and 6th 1999.

Got half of the order in the middle of October 1999, and drove 250 miles or so to a preparedness show in Las Vegas in early Nov 1999 and picked up the rest of my order and met Dave Roberson who was at the time vice pres. in charge of sales.

And of Course met Jerry there as well, He wanted to know if I was Selling his knives on the side cause I ordered ten at a time.

I said "No" he said "Would you like to?"

I said,"Sure"

I do not remember if there was drinking involved(drinking and memory do not mix well)

I got better prices on the knives I bought from Busse for the next couple of years(AKA was a dealer and got to get knives for me self as well,Life was good that way)

It was Fun to be the West's Busse guy for a while. :D

Much less Hassle to get knives from the Company Store(Nine AKs and half a dozen or so others) So Far.

Thank you Scott,

Thank you Vicky as well(She is the one who puts up with me on the phone)
