What lead you to Busse Combat Knives?

Honestly this site led me to busse, seeing Jerry post, and watching the rest of you post various threads about them, reading Cliff Stamp's testing of a BM and giving it good reviews all factored into my first purchase...and second...and im waiting on my third to be available on the website...unless i break down and buy a swamp rat folder first! im looking forward to the busse folder as I KNOW the rest of you probably are. lol

Edit: i broke down and bought a rat trap!~ didnt take me long. lol.

Swamp Rat Knives led me to Busse, Moras Led me to Swamp Rat and an article in Field and Stream led me to Mora's. I think I was reading one of the Cliff Stamp reviews on a Mora 2000, once I was done I began reading some of the others. The Ratweiler review is what caught my eye. Started reading up on Rats and Busse’s and 4 rats, 2 Busse's and a few hundred dollars later here I am waiting like a dope fiend to get myself a sweet sweet fix of INFI.

After a fella down the road a bit gave me a rundown on his computer and the internet back in 02 I think
I purchased my own and went surfing for a new knife. :D

I did have a few customs made from a mate and full time knife maker Joe Zemitis.

I found the Busse web site and fell in love with the No-e. :D it was all down hill from there. :D

Saw reviews here and there a while back and they just stuck with me. Was looking for a new fixed blade about 2 months ago. Had set my budget at about $150.00. Did a lot of reading around on different knives. $150 turned into $200 when I started leaning towards a Camp Tramp. While watching out for one I stumbled across the Busse Company Store and saw the HR. Went back like 5 minutes later to drool a little, but it was gone. Checked back a couple days later and this time was gone in like 2 minutes. At that point started to realize what all the "click" posts were in the Busse forum...LOL Started reading a lot more in the Busse forum and found everyone to be a bunch of friendly, alcoholic knife fiends like myself. Had a few drinks one day and stopped by the company store saw one last HR and jumped at it. Skunk would have to confirm this, but I think I got the last HR from the company store. Been in love since. One month and 4 Busses later, my credit cards say thank you :D

Saw an ad in the old "Fighting Knives" magazine around 92 or 93 for the original Steelheart and ordered it. Still have it, and a "few" more.

Oinker Hammie at the Indy 1500 gave me my first taste of INFI. Great guy with great knives.

I was introduced to Busse knives in the '80's. I have always appreciated Busses but never purchased one until this year.

I scored my first Busse in the February '06 Extravaganza and was completely hooked. I met Garth at Knob Creek and bought a SH and SJTAC from him. Then I managed to snag a pair of Heavy Hearts and a HOGSJTACLE from Skunk at the Co. Store.

My appreciation for Busse knives continues to grow, along with my collection.

The knives are great but it's the Busse community - Garth, Mike, Amy, Skunk, Gerry, and the collectors I have come to know at shows, on this forum, and in transactions on the web - that keeps me addicted.

Amen to that bro!

Few years ago I was just running around a gun show. I'd been looking for a good knife. I had a few name brand knives but I'd also ruined a few name brand knives. I'm not hard on knives but some knives just don't stand up.
Anyway, I'm walking around this gun show and I see a "Busse Combat" banner over a table in the back of the room. I didn't really know anything about them but I remembered seeing ads in magazines and one writer stated that Busse knives were for the guy that was gonna head into the wilderness and not come back. Or some such description eluding to the fact that they were up to the task.
So I make it around to the Busse table and there were some NO-E and SH-E's on the table. And a new knife that had just been introduced. The Satin Jack. Quarter inch thick blade of some metal I'd never heard of called INFI. That meant nothing to me. What sold me was the warranty. I was working on a crew that gutted houses so the next crew could come in and rebuild everything. So I wanted a knife that could pry, so light chopping and cut well. But not some monster to hang on my belt. I liked the Satin Jack so I picked one up. At that time it was the most I'd ever spent on a knife. My friends thought I was nuts for shelling out that much for a piece of steel.
The funny thing is that because I'd spent so freaking much on that knife it went into my gun cabinet and just sat there for years.
After a few years I was looking for a small fixed blade to carry. I remembered Busse from the Satin Jack in my cabinet so I did a search for them. Well I saw that they pretty much had the same selection they'd had when I got my Satin Jack in the first place. But there were other smaller knives as well. I saw and immediately wanted a Public Defender. But wow, $197 for such a small knife? I still couldn't see spending that much on a knife. So I did more research. It seemed that the price might be justified if they really were as good as they seemed. Only one way to find out. I had one and it was high time I used it. Before I could do that I found that the Satin Jack was now 3/16 thick. I saw the one I had was worth a little more. Hmmm....that's strange. A knife going up in value? I'd never seen that before. I did see that you could get your money back if you didn't like the knife though.

Then I met Hamguy. I wanted to see an Assault Shaker. He had Ergo's and whatnot with him. I think he thought I must have been nuts. I liked the feel of the Ergo's now. I'd remembered them being blocky but the later ones were more contoured. So I can't remember what I got when but over the period of Indy weekend I got 2 or three each of NO-E's and SH-E's. Then another set. I ended up getting 4 Steel Hearts and 4 Natural Outlaws in a very short period of time. It's been buy buy, bye bye money ever since.

Thanks Hammy, thanks Jerry and thanks to all the oinkers that helped me out with info and selling me knives.

Good times.
