What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

I've had this knife for a little over a month now.

It's hardly left my pocket in that time. I don't like using the word "love" for inanimate objects, so let's just say that I am EXTREMELY fond of it. :love-struck:

Thanks again for the gift I received on Friday Charlie, means a lot to me :)

Jack

YES!!! :triumphant:

Whoah, Jack you got a goodun! It's brother has ridden with me before, a great knife. Watch out, they are addictive. I think I have........................

I don't know, I guess I have a lot!

Yes, that was a gentle nudge to all of the lads and lasses here to kindly share their collections ;).

Glad to hear you made it home safely !!!

Baryy! - you change colour!!!

OK Duncan, you got me, I fess up. :o I'm not only a pocket knife addict, I'm a GEC distributor 'cause I love GEC knives! :D Collected them from the beginning and bought and sold many since; (Palm slapped to forehead while saying 'Doh' repeatedly.... ), but no regrets really, as I enjoy pleasing other traditional knife lovers as much as fondling new GEC knives myself! Especially TC Barlows!

When I pull out a beautiful pocket knife and show it to my friends, they look at me glassy eyed and quickly change the subject, or pull out some "globally manufactured" POS. :( You guys on this forum make me feel... GREAT! :D 'cause I don't feel like I'm the only one with a trad obsession! (Is that the right word?)

Thank you Charlie for my beautiful 'orange' barlow! Love it, love it, love it!

Wow! Information overload from the last two pages! Thanks for sharing all the new photos everyone! The new Charlows look great, and it looks like everyone who went to the rendezvous had a fruitful and great time. Wish I could've made it. ...Next Year!

It's great to see the TC Barlow visiting the land of its ancestry, Jack!
(The Barlow was, of course, invented in England, as far as I know).
Nice pictures!!

It is, in fact, EASY being Green Barry! Welcome to your new status!

You are going to like these TCs Duncan!

The Walnut makes a nice subtle, warm handle. It's almost like remembering a piece of furniture you grew up with. Hard to explain.
I stopped in Buffalo to visit the brother who sent me the gunstock blank, before the Rendevous, and I swung by again on my way home just to give him a Walnut handled Barlow. He was over the moon! I thought he was gonna cry!!
It's funny; it's only a knife with a wood handle in one sense, but it sure means a lot to both of us. I hope everyone who opts for one can enjoy them in some meaningful way.

Better send one down to Pasadena too Charlie. Don't want to make your other brother feel left out.

I don't know how I missed it, but what is the story behind the gunstock?

Thanks Charlie, I'll be taking it over to Sheffield this week for a visit to Kelham Island Industrial Museum and hopefully some more photo ops :)

Wow-awesome - ON YA Jack!, and Charlie, mate - you are simply worth your weight in GOLD my friend, very generous, and it will be a looooooooooooong time when you are not needed here in traditionals, we and other Traditional knife users who are not aware of your input are all SO much better off.
Thank you

Charlie - like you wouldnt believe my friend, I am somewhat of a sentimental ( more the later syllable of that word ) fool, and yes I love the shape of the knife, and more I love who had the mind in the making of the knife, and even more the huge value of importance from where the Walnut originated, what it means to the author and genius behind these knives, I guess I am rambling a bit here, but I can put money on it that everyone here feels the same -are you behind me here guys and gals?

Thank you Charlie-please leave my order till last, I am not panicking to see them, I know they will come one day - that will do me! E-mail in - coming in a week or two.

Thank you Charlie, Sarah, and our great bunch of Traditionalists who support Charlie, and each other here.

Man...I can understand your Brothers feelings, I too would have been the same in his position, but most probably wouldn't have contained it!

Traditionals just Rock!

Well, I've a mind to get a single blade sheepsfoot barlow. The spears look perfect to me with either single or double blades, and carry fine too. I bought a single and a double clip, but traded the single blade. I may keep the double clip. I was thinking about sheepsfoot blades, and thought that the single blade would work best for use for me.

Now I'm torn between walnut and antique yellow bone. I am getting a walnut, just for some variety (got a two blade antique yellow bone spear point).

Duncan, I like you have only one cover on my mind "Walnut" The story behind it means the most to me!!! I was blessed to have the good fortune to win Charlies GAW and that's the cover for me
