What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

Had my Charlow’s out this morning with my coffee.

I think what WOULD make a great Barlow is that #14 but on the #77 pattern, the exact knife, TC bolster, all steel, cocobolo with chamfered edges and squared butt…

yes indeed, as a single clip. too bad they did spears that year. single blade cocobolo clip 77 barlow sounds wonderful, despite all the crap i gave bill about cocobolo that year 🤣 youd think he found it all at a home depot with all the patterns that had cocobolo that year.

🤣 surely you're not all Cocobolo'd out?! You think we could ever see an up-scaled TC bolster? Specifically for the 77??

i almost thought about making some out of sterling again for a mod, but at this point getting spare gecs for mod projects is getting ridiculous too. i was gonna say someone could have the clip swapped into the spear, but since the springs were kinda weak in the current 77 run and that barlow run, it wont be much of a successful project. The NF bolster is quite solid, but hey if they made a 2AB, maybe another pattern might get one at some point.

A curved Barlow must be just right. My custom maker friends tell me the proximity of the handle/bolster joint to the curve makes an awkward intersection that is hard to render into a smooth curve!!
I can just imagine this being one of those jobs that only once you're attempting it that it shows just how awkward it would be! On your Russell's however the bolsters also look to be curved?

Optical illusion!! 😁

I like Russell's drop-point blade!!

Great looking Russell Barlows, Charlie! Love the curved ones. (You in closer to talking Bill into making one?) 😉😁

The big one with the fish scaler(?) on the spine is really interesting, too!

Most of my Barlows are GECs, but here are a couple older Daddy Barlows. I just picked up the HSB at the Badger show this weekend.
