What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

I finally got one of Cooper's Barlows, a nice NYK!!! They do a nice job on the integral bolsters, and they have captured the flavor of a traditional sawcut Barlow!! I'm impressed!!!NYK by Cooper 1.jpg
Some will complain about the lack of swedges, but I like that wide blade for a change!!! Nice knife!! I like the historic "Matteawan" labeling!!

I always enjoy seeing that Fayetteville Knife Co. tang stamp. I lived in Fayetteville, Arkansas for several years — completely different Fayetteville, of course, but I still like it. 😁

Great color on that bone! I’ve yet to pull the trigger on a Cooper knife, but their work does seem to be improving. Might have to grab one soon.

Looking, for all the world, as new as the knife in my previous post, this Ulster is a treasure!! Factory Fresh but aging, it's a great example of Ulster's wonderful skill of the old school!!!View attachment 2966940

Wow, Charlie, that’s a beauty! I love that big sheepsfoot. Very cool knife. 😎

I was looking for some recent Barlow pics, since it’s always nice to contribute something to these threads when commenting on others’ posts, but it seems the only Barlow I’ve carried recently is my rosewood HHB. I guess I should give my other Barlows some pocket time soon!

Jack came up with a nice Lamb Barlow, for his last stand with Wright's!!! 😁

Here is an oddball Fayetteville baby barlow I have in the collection, 2 7/8", Fayetteville bolster stamp with Carrier tang stamps. Carrier did not make their knives so most likely they had the knife made by Fayetteville and they did not bother changing the bolster stamp. Miller Bros used to do the same when they made barlows for other companies.
