What was their original purpose I wonder? Sort of a regular-sized main blade but with speying ability?

Case did a nice run of these last year. I scored a sweet one at Blade Show Texas. Carbon steel patina settling in nicely on both blades.

A trailing point blade is too hazardous for speying! Might lead to inadvertent cutting of neighboring tissue!! A spey has a dull/flattened tip!
Might be good for skinning/caping!!?? See spey blades below!!
