What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

Is there a picture showing what the razors will look like closed?

Isn't it always the way. You say to yourself; 'no more knives this year' then all the beauties pop up at once. They look great Charlie!

Ack!! Now I see jigged bone. OK, so that's at least three I need to save for.

Charlie, you're killing me!

A week or two!!

Mostly Sambar Stag, which is a deer found in India. The usual method is to pick up the shed antlers, and treat them with potassium permanganate, which kills the bugs, and darkens them.

Thanks Charlie for the info. I'm curious about the wood that's used also. Where is the walnut from on the Barlow, and where is the ebony from on the Boys knife?

The walnut is from a rough rifle blank my Dad had stashed away for decades!
My brothers and I inherited them, and neither of us is into custom rifles.
I wanted it to stay in the family, so I give both brothers a knife from each batch. And you guys get to enjoy well aged knife handles.

The Ebony is actually African Blackwood on the Barlows. I am not sure about the Boy's knives . . . .emailing GEC is the most accurate way to find out!

What a cool way to hang onto some of your fathers old stuff! I hoping to snag one of the Walnut Barlows, it will be my first! Great looking batch Charlie, you're on a roll with these knives:thumbup:

This makes up my mind. Walnut it is for me, thanks Charlie

I'm really hoping to grab one of those single clip point barlows in walnut, they are beyond handsome. Would also make my first Charlow, I feel like it's a good choice!

A couple of old bone handled barlows to look at while we wait:

It always makes me happy to find an old one with full blades, but, I really need one of those new third cut stags. :D

I am really curious to know how many handles you were able to get from the blanks.

As always Primble - lovely knives!, that Remington has exceptional bone, but when looking at that awesome Keen Kutter - that Bone is just gorgeous as well!

Wow, those knives are gorgeous! But with that said...your photography skills are outstanding and add so much to our enjoyment of them, Thanks for that.

The bone that's used on say the Boys knife, is the bone imported or is the bone from cattle here in the States?
