What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

I grew up respecting the "Primble" name and the badge of honor. I loved the quality of the knives they sold. :o:o:o

That same quality does not exist today - it is a purchased name.

It would be the same to me if the name was TC Barlow that was auctioned off to a maker of much less quality. No go for me.

Drink all you want in your holler log. :barf:

That is what I'm saying Primble. I agree the Blue Grass Barlows are not the same quality as the original Primble Barlow knives.

I read in Levines forum that Blue Grass was started by a guy named Parker who used the Winchester and Case names on knives that were not made by them.

Hope this clears up the "muddy waters"

I had another try at some photo's today to try and bring out the real colours of these magnificent knives.....Please tell me if I am clogging things up here and I will amend....

Another shot of the awesome Spear...

OK, so I spent the last hour or so starting at page 1. Interesting to revisit---sad to see some members no longer here? Paul Bosley, SHE BOP, others I'll forget to mention---hope they're well?

What a thread, what memories. To say it was fun is an understatement and I only made it to page 70 something?

But Duncan!!! Tell me more of the Spear---the Covers are? Also Paul Bosley showed the elusive Copperhead Bone covers in a Single Spear Version---WOW

I know Duncan is wanting to see pictures of the Spear/Pen in Copperhead Bone also?

OK Duncan your up!!! Please tell me the covers on this GORGEOUS Spear:thumbup:

I have to agree with gunstockjack. I have a number of TCs but my single SF smooth Ivory bone and my two blade SF are my favorites. Paul, Duncan and Brett what a great interaction and trade story and thanks for the details and narrative. I love hearing about these kind of things! You are all a credit to the BF community. Duncan that Brazilian Rosewood spear point is just stunning and what a treasure. Paul the story of your two blade TC going and coming back is well just a wonderful story. I salute all of you gentlemen.

Thank you Luger---I love the picture of yours:thumbup: I just saw your post now as I did a bit of time travel (see my last post) in the thread:o Fun to go back---fun to be part of, and best of all the friendship these knives, this thread has forged:thumbup:

The well made knives were made 1987-'90s,while Charlie Dorton was still part of Blue Grass.

The '87, '88, and some later models were made by Queen using old dies from the original factories. I don't think these dies had much life left in 'em, but these early models are usually of good quality.

Duncan, Paul, Brett...

You guys are cornerstones of the traditionals forum. I always love reading the stories about your dealings and the special story behind each knife.

I pulled this one out and slipped it in my pocket for the day in honor of y'all! It was a gift from the man himself and is very special to me.

I'm sure that none of us thought that this thread would have legs like it has. I'm going to have to have a go at that one day Paul, great memories for sure my friend :)

For your very kind comments.

Isnt it just an amazing Thread!, Another thing to note to, when you go through this Thread - just look at how many people Charlie has helped out by gifting SO MANY of these wonderful knives! CC has started something huge here - not only because of Bills amazing cutlery skills - and with Charlies passion and knowledge - but because Charlie is the person he is - That Walnut is pretty darned special stuff to us because of that:thumbup:
