What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

Will - that is a beautiful German made Russell.

We have 17 inches of snow on the ground and much higher drifts, caused from the wind yesterday. Currently at - 10 degrees this morning.

Brrrrrrrr !!!

Thought it appropriate to post this set:

The water droplets on the TC were re-frozen droplets, from the warmed in my pocket knife. ;):)

This antique amber is one of my very favorites of the TC's and I would be chomping at the bit for one made with this handle duplicated, in a sheep foot model.

I suspect many others would also have a keen interest.

Good pics happen when Primble gets cabin fever!!:D

I'm totin' my Schrade while I await the arrival of the #77 sheepsfoot this afternoon. The other S item is the pendulum weight from an old Sessions mantle clock.

Brass Blue Grass!

I suspect this Barlow has been lurking around my den for 10 years or so. I was attracted to the Brass bolsters, but decided I preferred iron, steel and nickel. This knife fell behind some empty boxes in a drawer. It is nicely made, apparently better than current production. Could be Schrade or Camillus???

The etch is reflected in the scanner glass - it's actually nice and neat. As usual, scratch marks are in the glass also.

Nice group pic you posted while I was assembling this one, Sean! I am glad that "S" Barlow is in your hands! It it flourishing under your care!!!

Here's my 77 Barlow that arrived today. Tan saw cut handles. Very well built barlow on a par with the TCs without a doubt! WTG Mike Latham!

Nice to hear they are well built, Perry. I have my name in for a one-blade. The two-blade I have is flawless!

OK, put your shades on! Protect your eyes in some way!!
The King of Barlow Bling came in the mail yesterday . . . . .

I believe that Bluegrass Barlow was most likely made while Belknap was still in Business. In 1968 the stamp was shortened to Belknap Inc. due to government regulations.

I agree that it is well made and a very nice example of the Belknap Bluegrass stamped Barlow. I had never seen one with the brass bolster. Looks mint too !:)

Duncan sent me a Belknap Louisville knife and it is nicely made, as well.

OK, put your shades on! Protect your eyes in some way!!

Thanks for your kind words Mr Primble:thumbup:

You be careful you don't lose that Barlow in another snowdrift:eek::eek: Well, at least archaeologists would have fun in the centuries to come speculating about burial rites or frozen in ice artefacts, mummified Barlow:D:D

Regards, Will

:eek::eek::eek: Nooooooooo !!! - Not my antique amber TC lost !!! :eek::eek::D

One catch though, finders = keepers

:eek::eek::eek:

My vision from help arriving:

I am here to help.

Finds knife while ole Primble is frantically looking everywhere, has his back turned, and re-tying his boots.

Slips it in his pocket.

One hour later:

Well, we tried Primble - I suppose it is just lost ole friend !!!

Primble says - Thanks for the help!!!

:D:D:D

Primble, you wouldn't have that nagging fear with a CSC Barlow in Gold-Veined acrylic. Lol.

I picked that up at CSC's Open House in 2013 after meeting Eric and touring the factory. Even though I don't usually go for acrylic, when I went to their store this one just called out to me--like a vein of gold in a coal mine, I just couldn't resist. The depth in the gold caught my eye and to me it's a kind of reverse Barlow: plainer bolsters with more *ahem* "detailed" handles.

I was asking myself what does Charlie not have, when his generous participation in the "Golden GAW" struck me and I had my eureka moment.

Since I can't probably get away with much teasing anymore - you Folks are on to me  - I will just flat out show you the label!

SHEEPFOOT_ELVIS_zps18016b30.jpg

Thinking about Tom and Huck growing up and getting into their teen years, I thought of my own early teens. A flood of nostalgia washed over me, and took me off on a tangent.
It was hard to stay focused! I like early country music and rockabilly, and 50s-60s rock and roll. I had sideburns and blue suede shoes!! :D
Ah well, it kept me out of trouble - - or not!;)

Anyway, I am looking forward to these knives! The Sheepfoot is a useful little knife. A lot of blade in a traditional Barlow, and easy to carry. I ask ya, what more does a knife guy need??

Say, that guy that just left the building!! Was that???? Naw, it couldn'ta been!! . . . . . . . . . . Could it??
