What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

If I can ask the experts here.. how often do you oil or care for your TC's that are not users? I have two so far that will be cherished display knives for the time being. Thank you!

Look what the old flea bitten dog dragged in today ;):D:

Oil the joints when you think about it or every 6 months, depending on whether or not they're being used, dispatch. Primble, what a magical knife to find! I know you must be thrilled to finally score it!
Ron, I'm with you, seconds, thirds, and sometimes even fifths please!:D

Thank you. If not users and just taken out to admire from time to time do the blades need anything to prevent rust?
Beutiful knives everyone, the pictures seem proffesional!

Well, after lurking around here for nearly five years and following this thread with keen interest and just a touch of despair for several months, I finally get to "weigh-in." I confess that I could not comprehend what all the fuss was about surrounding the TC Barlows but I determined that I would have one just to see why everyone gets so worked up about them. Well, easier said than done! At last, I was able to acquire a TC from one of our fellow BF members (thanks, Eric). NOW I GET IT AND I MUST HAVE ANOTHER!!!! This one in the walnut has not left my pocket in nearly two weeks now. When it arrived, it was pristine but as you can see, it is aging nicely as I put it to work everyday.

Yes you should wipe them down & put some gun oil or something on them as the oils from your hands will make them patina or even rust. Some people are much more acidic than others. I've had good results with using one of those silicone gun & reel cloths as well.

Primble - If you use up all your luck on finding them TC's, them Cats might get in trouble :D:eek::D

Congratulations Primble!! Both Copperhead bone TC Barlows are just superb! Really outstanding color on the flat handle and interplay of colors nearer the bolsters. And both on the same day, you say? Lightning really does strike twice.... Well done!!

Primble, I think some long distance adoption could be worked out for future inheritance in my case, unless Mark or Duncan or any other members have beat me to the punch?:o:cool::D

Personally I feel that anybody lucky enough to have a copper flashlight should be given a copperhead TC Barlow to go with it. ;) :D It makes sense from a purely aesthetics point of view, right?

Robb, there's no arguing with logic like that:thumbup::D
