What Makes a Good, Traditional Barlow?

That brings up a great but personal question:thumbup: Whats your favorite of all TC Barlow covers---not the rarest but ones own personal favorite.

This configuration, with the single spear and sawcut bone covers. The quintessential barlow.

The "latest run" is what I referring to as well...I bow down in honor of the Copper Head.

Mine, hummmm, I'd go with Gabon Ebony:thumbup: followed by Sawcut Rust Red Bone....I'll stop there because I could go on and on...but for me GABON EBONY:cool:

Hello Paul, these are my all time favourite Barlows, the bone just gets better and better with use.

Best regards

Saddle Up !

I had noticed in the TC Barlow Production List that there was a single Saddle Brown long pull spearpoint listed.

2nd Run (Apple Cider Vinegar Label) Genuine Barlow etch Spearpoint Blade with Long Pull and Pen blade:

#152213STL Ebony Wood 32 pcs. no serial numbers
#152213STL Rust Red Jig Bone 31 pcs. no serial numbers
#152213STL Saddle Brown Saw Cut Bone 1 pcs. no serial numbers
#152213 Genuine Pre-ban Elephant Ivory 1 pcs. no serial numbers (A gift to Charlie from Bill for the success of the TC Barlow SFO's)

I just had to know - you know !:rolleyes::D

I sent a message to Waynorth and this was the reply which I received, with his pictures of the lone TC Saddle Brown Spear:

"When Bill finished up the pen-behind run, which was the second run of spears,
He was short a pair of handles. The next run (clips) had extras of the Saddle Brown handles. He asked me if I wanted a Spear with the Brown, and of course I said yes.
I archived it with no notes, and forgot it!! Until your questioning mind came along!"

The (one of one) #152213STL Saddle Brown Saw Cut Bone Spearpoint:

Beautiful Soup Bone Mark and a great pair of Antique Yellow Sheepfoots Robin.:)

You guys are giving Charlie a big head with all these TCs!:D Let's get back to something more like the barlows on page 1. This weekend I took in my first knife show, in Janesville, WI, and had a ball. I wasn't going with barlows in mind (well, I guess the thought is always in the back there somewhere:)), but one guy from Wisconsin had around 100, nice collection. I really liked an old Keen, almost new condition, but I didn't have the funds. But I did see an old Hibbard that caught my eye at a different table. Now the seller, a nice fella from Missoura', was giving me the eye while asking me if I'd ever seen a Hibbard w/o Spencer and Bartlett on the tang. Luckily for me, I had done my homework (thanks to THIS THREAD and MadMerryMonk's post), and I knew that HSB had a second line of barlows with only Hibbard on the tang. So anyway, a double-sawbuck later (that's right), this baby was in my pocket!

My research shows this to be from 1913-1927, so of course I'll assume it's the first one off the line from 1913.:D I have only seen 2 of these, and none exactly like mine. Al has one in post #5991, and I've seen another, but neither have the upper groove on the bolster. The stamps are definitely authentic, the main blade is a little shortened from years of use, but not bad. It could be reshaped a little, but I'll probably leave it as is. It's very very well made, solid snap! The sawcut bone is very nice, this "cheaper" non-OVB version they didn't taper the bone to match the bolsters, left it squared off. It was a little rusty, what you see here is after a first, short clean-up. If any of you have more information on the Hibbard, or one of your own, I'd love to hear/see more. Thanks for listening!

Just to show my TC love too::D
