Nice knife and story of acquisition, Brad! You guys are giving Charlie a big head with all these TCs!Let's get back to something more like the barlows on page 1. This weekend I took in my first knife show, in Janesville, WI, and had a ball. I wasn't going with barlows in mind (well, I guess the thought is always in the back there somewhere
), but one guy from Wisconsin had around 100, nice collection. I really liked an old Keen, almost new condition, but I didn't have the funds. But I did see an old Hibbard that caught my eye at a different table. Now the seller, a nice fella from Missoura', was giving me the eye while asking me if I'd ever seen a Hibbard w/o Spencer and Bartlett on the tang. Luckily for me, I had done my homework (thanks to THIS THREAD and MadMerryMonk's post), and I knew that HSB had a second line of barlows with only Hibbard on the tang. So anyway, a double-sawbuck later (that's right), this baby was in my pocket!
My research shows this to be from 1913-1927, so of course I'll assume it's the first one off the line from 1913.I have only seen 2 of these, and none exactly like mine. Al has one in post #5991, and I've seen another, but neither have the upper groove on the bolster. The stamps are definitely authentic, the main blade is a little shortened from years of use, but not bad. It could be reshaped a little, but I'll probably leave it as is. It's very very well made, solid snap! The sawcut bone is very nice, this "cheaper" non-OVB version they didn't taper the bone to match the bolsters, left it squared off. It was a little rusty, what you see here is after a first, short clean-up. If any of you have more information on the Hibbard, or one of your own, I'd love to hear/see more. Thanks for listening!
Just to show my TC love too:

Nice knife and story of acquisition, Brad!
As I said about Al's "H", I'm envious as heck!
